Women’s Swimming & Diving has Four Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Garvey, Daniels, Racicot and Pelshaw Honored for Beavers

BABSON PARK, Mass.— A group of four Babson College women's swimming and diving student-athletes were honored by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) with Academic All-District recognition on Tuesday afternoon.

Seniors Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.) were both named to the Academic All-District Team for the second time in their respective careers, while sophomore Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) and graduate student Anya Pelshaw (Sterling Heights, Mich.) were both honored for the first time. They are all eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this month.

Since 1952, CSC has honored more than 40,000 outstanding student-athletes across the NCAA. To be eligible, a student-athlete maintain a GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and must compete at their conference championship meet.

An Accounting major, Garvey made her mark on the Beaver program in the distance events. She placed 10th at the NEWMAC meet this season in the 1650 free, 15th in the 500 free, and seventh in the 200 free. Garvey's top times are among the best in program history, as she holds the school record in the 1650 free (18:16.15) and ranks second in the 1000 (10:57.98), third in the 500 (5:17.96), and seventh in the 200 free (2:00.06). She also swam on Babson's 800-meter free relay team that placed sixth at the NEWMAC championships.

An Economics major, Daniels was a productive member of the team during her career. She finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke and 27th in the 50 free at this year's NEWMACs, and swam on the 200 free relay team that placed 14th and also swam on a 200 free relay team that set the program record of 1:37.96. Her best times rank in the top five in program history in the 50 free (24.55), 100 free (53.47), 100 breast (1:08.25), and 100 IM (1:03.04).

A Business major, Racicot had a strong meet for the Beavers at the NEWMAC Championships. In addition to placing 23rd in the 50 free and 17th in the 100 free, she swam on Babson relays in all five events and helped set three program records. She swam the anchor leg of the record-setting 400 medley relay (3:56.77), the leadoff leg of the record-setting 200 free relay (1:37.96) and the third leg of the record-setting 400 free relay (3:34.97). The 200 medley (1:48.72) and 800 free relay (7:56.92) teams both posted times that rank second in program history.

A grad student Business major, Pelshaw had an outstanding performance at the NEWMAC Championships in her first year at Babson after transferring from Lafayette College. She qualified for the 'A' final in three individual events, placing fifth in the 200 breast and eighth in both the 100 breast and 100 fly. She also swam on three Babson relay teams that set program records, the 200 and 400 free relays and 400 medley relay. Her top times this season rank eighth in program history in the 50 free (24.87), sixth in the 100 free (53.96), fourth in the 100 (1:07.80) and 200 breast (2:27.25), and second in the 100 fly (57.62).
