Seven from Women’s Swimming & Diving Receive NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Honors

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Seven members of the Babson College women's swimming and diving team were recognized for success in the classroom when they were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.

Seniors Audrey Daniels (Santa Monica, Calif.), Kendall Garvey (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Elina Sung (Taichung, Taiwan), juniors Dahiana Gussoni (Jaco, Costa Rica) and Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.), sophomore Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.), and graduate student Anya Pelshaw (Sterling Heights, Mich.) were Babson's representatives on the All-Academic Team.

Daniels and Garvey were recognized for the third straight year while Gussoni and Randell are two-time honorees and the others are first-time selections. Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale after the 2024 fall semester, achieved second year academic status, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

An Economics major, Daniels was a productive member of the team during her career. She finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke and 27th in the 50 free at this year's NEWMACs, and swam on the 200 free relay team that placed 14th and also swam on a 200 free relay team that set the program record of 1:37.96. Her best times rank in the top five in program history in the 50 free (24.55), 100 free (53.47), 100 breast (1:08.25), and 100 IM (1:03.04).

An Accounting major, Garvey made her mark on the Beaver program in the distance events. She placed 10th at the NEWMAC meet this season in the 1650 free, 15th in the 500 free, and seventh in the 200 free. Garvey's top times are among the best in program history, as she holds the school record in the 1650 free (18:16.15) and ranks second in the 1000 (10:57.98), third in the 500 (5:17.96), and seventh in the 200 free (2:00.06). She also swam on Babson 800-meter free relay team that placed sixth at the NEWMAC championships.

An International Business and Economics major, Gussoni missed competing in swimming this season while studying abroad. She represented the Green and White in three events at the 2024 NEWMAC Championships, placing 23rd in the 1650, 40th in the 200 free and 53rd in the 500 free. Her best time of 19:26.20 in the 1650 is eighth-best in program history and her 11:44.24 in the 1000 ranks 10th.

A Business major, Sung competed at the NEWMAC Championships for the Beavers in both diving events. She scored a total of 205.75 points in the 1-meter event to place 18th, and she tallied 203.50 points on the 3-meter board to finish 17th.

An Entrepreneurship major, Randell was a competitor in distance events for the Beavers. She finished in 21st place in the 1650 at the NEWMAC Championships as well as 23rd in the 400 IM and 35th in the 500 free. Her career-best time of 18:51.11 in the 1650 ranks third in program history and her time of 11:19.05 in the 1000 free ranks fifth in the Babson record books.

A Business major, Racicot had a strong meet for the Beavers at the NEWMAC Championships. In addition to placing 23rd in the 50 free and 17th in the 100 free, she swam on Babson relays in all five events and helped set three program records. She swam the anchor leg of the record-setting 400 medley relay (3:56.77), the leadoff leg of the record-setting 200 free relay (1:37.96) and the third leg of the record-setting 400 free relay (3:34.97). The 200 medley (1:48.72) and 800 free relay (7:56.92) teams both posted times that rank second in program history.

A grad student Business major, Pelshaw had an outstanding performance at the NEWMAC Championships in her first year at Babson after transferring from Lafayette College. She qualified for the 'A' final in three individual events, placing fifth in the 200 breast and eighth in both the 100 breast and 100 fly. She also swam on three Babson relay teams that set program records, the 200 and 400 free relays and 400 medley relay. Her top times this season rank eighth in program history in the 50 free (24.87), sixth in the 100 free (53.96), fourth in the 100 (1:07.80) and 200 breast (2:27.25), and second in the 100 fly (57.62).
