Nick Yacoub (Sharon, Mass.) and senior
Julian Ivarra (Plano, Texas) claimed the top two spots in the men's 10,000-meter run on the opening night of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Thursday inside Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Yacoub came in first with a time of 31:48.20 in his collegiate debut, which was just over 38 seconds ahead of Ivarra, who was the runner-up with a time of 32:26.31 in a field of 25 runners. The duo was among the top three for the entirety of the race and rand one-two from the second lap on.
Ivarra set the pace for much of the first part of the race leading for more than 4,000 meters before Yacoub jumped in front at the 4,800-meter mark. He extended his lead by more than 13 seconds over the next six laps and was 22 seconds ahead of Ivarra with 2,000 meters to go.
Babson returns to action on Friday as the field events get underway at 9 a.m., while the track events are set to start at 12 p.m.
