MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— Babson College sophomore
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Swimmer of the Week when the league announced its first round of weekly honors on Monday afternoon.
Turhan came in first four times and added three individual finishes while swimming five different events over Babson's first three meets. She won both the 100 butterfly (1:00.86) and the 200 butterfly (2:16.49) to open the season at Roger Williams on October 18; Turhan also won both the 100 fly (58.65) and 200 fly (2:10.91) with season-best times and placed second in the 200 IM (2:14.52) in a five-team meet at WPI on Friday, and wrapped up the weekend by finishing as the runner-up in both the 50 free (26.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.63) on Saturday against Clark.
The sophomore butterfly/breaststroke specialist is coming off an outstanding rookie season when she set the school record in the 100 butterfly (57.51) and registered times that rank her among the top performers in program history in the 200 butterfly (2:08.75, 2nd), 200 individual medley (2:09.76, 2nd), and 200 breaststroke (2:26.30, 3rd).
Babson (5-1) will host its first home meet of the season this Friday against Stonehill at 5 p.m. inside Morse Pool.
