Men's Cross Country Places Third at NEWMAC Championship

ATTLEBORO, Mass.—Sophomore Nick Yacoub (Sharon, Mass.) recorded the top individual finish of his career by coming in seventh as the Babson College men's cross country team placed third at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Saturday morning on the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park.

The Beavers totaled 83 points, which is their second lowest total in the NEWMAC era going back to 1998, to finish behind 11th-ranked MIT (20 points) and second-place WPI (60 points). Babson, which finished with a school-record 73 points at last year's conference meet, has placed third in five consecutive seasons going back to 2021.

Yacoub crossed the finish line of the 8k course in a time of 25:37 and by virtue of his seventh-place result  is now one of just four Beavers' harriers to earn all-league honors in consecutive seasons. He came in 13th at last year's league meet on the Nehoiden Golf Club course in Wellesley, Mass.

Sophomore Brian Ronayne (Reading, Mass.) narrowly missed joining him on the All-NEWMAC team by coming in 17th with a time of 26:29. First-year Arthur Boulot (Geneva, Switzerland) placed 23rd in a time of 26:42, while junior John Hanscom (Hadley, Mass.) was right behind him in 24th position with a time of 26:44.

First-year Oliver Jones (Whanganui, New Zealand) finished 26th in a time of 26:53, first-year Connor Andrews (Wrightsville Beach, N.C.) placed 33rd in a time of 27:16 and junior Ethan Jina (Carlisle, Mass.) posted a time of 27:22 to come in 35th overall. Fellow junior Brian Gall (Norwalk, Conn.) also ran 27:22, while sophomore Daniel Garcia (Miami, Fla.) registered a time of 27:35 to finish among the top 40.

Babson, which entered the weekend ranked sixth in the region, is back in action on Saturday, November 15, when it travels to the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H., for the NCAA East Regional.

MEET NOTES
•    Yacoub joins Chris Perry '04 (2002, 2003), Matthew Dynan '19 (2016, 2017) and Anthony Rodriguez '24 M'25 (2021-24) as the only Babson runners to claim multiple all-conference accolades.
•    The Beavers have now finished with 90 points or fewer in five consecutive conference meets and seven of the last nine NEWMAC Championships going back to 2016.
•    Saturday's 83 points were six lower than the only other time the league meet was held at Highland Park back in 2022.
