HOPKINTON, N.H.—Sophomore
Nick Yacoub earned all-region honors as the Babson College men's cross country team finished sixth at the NCAA East Region Championship at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers finished sixth out of 32 teams with 223 points, matching the best finish in program history with their second lowest point total. No. 11 MIT came in first with 42 points and secured an automatic bid into next Saturday's Division III Championship, while Tufts (49 points), Colby (104), Bates (124), and WPI (136 points) rounded out the top five.
Yacoub crossed the finish line in 22nd place out of 216 runners in a time of 25:17, improving 10 spots from his 32nd place a year ago and dropping 36 seconds. Sophomore
Brian Ronayne (Reading, Mass.) was the second Beaver across the line, finishing 39th in 25:58, and junior
John Hanscom (Hadley, Mass.) came in 47th in 26:06.
First-years
Arthur Boulot (Geneva, Switzerland) and
Oliver Jones (Whanganui, New Zealand) rounded out the Babson scorers, Boulot finishing 54th in 26:15 and Jones taking 61st in 26:27. The remaining runners were first-year
Connor Andrews (Wrightsville Beach, N.C.), 79th in 27:05, and sophomore
Daniel Garcia (Miami, Fla.), 89th in 27:19.
Yacoub will hope for his name to the called when the NCAA Division III Championship meet at-large selections are announced on Sunday.
