Babson Lands Six on CSC Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District Team

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Six members of the Babson College men's track & field and cross country programs were recognized for their success in the classroom when the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their Division III Academic All-District teams on Tuesday. 

Rising seniors Coleman Hayes (New York, N.Y.) and Stratton Seymour (Merrimac, Mass.) were named to the CSC Academic All-District team for the second time in their careers while recent Master's degree graduate Skyler Mott (Mills Neck, N.Y.), rising senior Jonathan Hanscom (Hadley, Mass.), and rising juniors Brian Ronayne (Reading, Mass.) and Noa Wong (Kaneohe, Hawaii) all earned their first CSC Academic All-District nod. 

Since 1952, CSC (formerly CoSIDA) has honored more than 44,000 outstanding student-athletes across the NCAA. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and ranked among the top 50 in the region in at least one event in track & field, or among the top 50 finishers at cross country regionals. 

A finance major, Hayes competed in five track & field meets this spring for the Beavers as a thrower. His highlights included a sixth place in the shot put at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4, a ninth-place showing in the shot put at the Tufts Spring Stampede on April 11, and a fourth place result in the shot with a season-best mark of 44-feet, 10.25-inches at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational on April 18. He finished eighth in the shot put at the NEWMAC Championships with a throw of 43-feet, 7.75-inches, and also finished 17th in both the discus (106-feet even) and the hammer throw (108-feet, 6-inches). His season-best mark in the shot put was best on the team and ranked 21st in the NCAA East Region.

An accounting/strategic consulting major, Seymour competed in four track meets in the 400-meter hurdles as well as two meets in the decathlon. He finished eighth in the 400 hurdles at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on March 28 and seventh at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4. He scored 4636 points and placed third in his first career decathlon at the NEWMAC Championships on April 24-25, and scored 4605 points and finished seventh at the Farley Inter Regional at Williams on May 8-9. His 4636 points in the decathlon at the NEWMAC championships ranked 16th in the NCAA East Region this spring.

A business major, Mott enjoyed an outstanding season in his first year with the Beavers after transferring from Lehigh. He became the Babson's first NCAA Championships qualifier and NEWMAC champion in the high jump and ranked first in the East Region in the high jump (6-feet, 9.75-inches) and seventh in the triple jump (46-feet, 2.75-inches). He recorded both of his school record marks at the season-opening Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on March 21, and wrapped up his season with an eighth place in the high jump at the NCAA Division III Championships to earn All-America recognition.

A finance major, Hanscom competed in all six cross country races for the Beavers last fall and four outdoor meets this spring. He averaged a time of 26:16 in the 8K cross country events, including a career-best time of 25:59 at the Hopkinton (N.H.) XC Festival in October. He placed 24th at the NEWMAC Championships with a time of 26:44 on November 1 and third for the Green and White with a 26:06 at the NCAA East Regional Championships on November 15. He ran a career-best time of 32:39 to win the 10,000 meters at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on March 27, and ran a career-best 16:11.91 in the 5000 meters to place seventh at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational on April 18. He also finished eighth in the 10K at the NEWMAC Championships on April 24 with a time of 33:06.16. His 32:39 in the 10,000 at UMass Dartmouth ranked 29th in the NCAA Division III East Region this year.

An accounting and finance major, Ronayne competed in five of the six cross country races last fall and five track meets this spring. He finished with an average time for the 8K cross country races of 26:03, including a career best time of 25:46 at the Connecticut College Invitational on October 18. He placed 17th at the NEWMAC Championships on November 2 and crossed the line in 25:58 to place 39th at the NCAA East Regionals on November 16. He finished fourth in the 1500 meters (4:06.15) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:00.58) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 4; he ran season-best times of 1:58.40 in the 800 and 4:01.35 in the 1500 at the Tufts Stampede on April11; and finished runner-up in the 1500 meters (4:02.54) at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational on April 18. He came in eighth in the 1500 (4:04.59) and 13th in the 800 (2:01.34) at the NEWMAC Championships on April 25.

A finance major, Wong competed in five track and field meets for the Beavers this spring. He started the season with a second-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 50.91 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on March 21 and finished 10th in the 400 (50.44) at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational on April 18. He placed eighth in the 400 (50.32) at the NEWMAC Championships on April 25 and 12th at the Division III New England Championships on May 2 in a career-best time of 49.95. He also ran on Babson's 4x400-meter relay that placed third at both the NEWMAC and Division III New England Championships.

Babson finished third at the NEWMAC cross country championships and sixth at the NCAA East Regionals, matching the best finish in program history with their second lowest point total. The Beavers finished in fourth place at the conference track & field championships with 87 points, the second-most in program history.
