VERO BEACH, Fla.—Babson College first-year
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) was selected as the Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) Golfer of the Week on Thursday morning.
Bansal shot 71-74 to become the first Babson player in program history to finish a 36-hole tournament under par at the Polar Bear Shootout last weekend. She made an eagle and two birdies in the opening round and followed it up with four birdies and five bogeys to finish ninth overall at 1-under 145.
Her 2-under 71 is the second lowest score in school history and matches the lowest score in relation to par set by junior
Laura Lu (Chengdu, China) and sophomore
Alice Zhu (Orlando, Fla.) in the second round of last April's Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate.
The award was the second of the season for Bansal, who also received CWGC Golfer of the Week laurels back on September 17 after going 4-0 at Wellesley's Ann Batchelder Match Play to open the season. She currently ranks first on the team with a 75.83 stroke average.
Babson concludes the fall portion of its schedule at the inaugural CWGC Championship at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pa., on October 27-28.
