No. 6 Field Hockey Hosts MIT on Tuesday Evening at MacDowell Field

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have a 37-18 advantage over MIT in the all-time series that dates back to 1984.
• Babson has won 15 of the last 18 against the Engineers, including eight in a row since MIT defeated the Green and White, 3-2 in overtime, in the 2019 NEWMAC Championship final at MacDowell Field.
• The Beavers have captured the last six games at MacDowell Field since 2021.

LAST MEETING
• Berit Sharrow '25 tallied a goal and an assist and classmate Jessica Evans '25 was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player as top-seeded/seventh-ranked Babson captured its fourth straight NEWMAC championship with a 3-0 victory over second-seeded/17th-ranked MIT on November 9, 2024 at MacDowell Field.
Bayla Furmanek '25 made two saves in goal in the victory, while seniors Caroline DiGiovanni and Laney Reed potted goals and Ellie Powers '25 picked up an assist for the Beavers, who outshot the Engineers, 11-9.
• Junior Maeve Zimmer made five saves in the MIT goal in the setback.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 6 Babson (10-1, 3-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over WPI on Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Reed and DiGiovanni tallied a pair of first-half goals in the victory. First-year Madison Tibbals registered her second shutout of the season for the Beavers, which had a 20-3 margin in total shots and a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal..
• DiGiovanni (11-0-22) has four goals in her last three games and has at least one goal in nine of the 11 games this fall. Sophomore Penny Baroni (7-2-16) has reached her career high in goals and points, and Reed (3-0-6), senior Alex Michelotti (2-2-6) and junior Grace Mullaney (1-4-6) are tied for third on the team in scoring.
• Tibbals (1.26 GAA, 40 saves, 2 shutouts) has started 10 straight games between the pipes and allowed one goal or fewer eight times.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• MIT (7-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) captured its fifth straight win on Saturday at Springfield, 3-2 in overtime. The Engineers have won four of the five games in the streak by one goal, including three in overtime and one in a shootout.
• Junior Janie Thomas scored the game-winner 5:32 into overtime after senior Bailey McIntyre scored twice in the final 3:45 of regulation for force the extra session. First-year Meredith Wu registered assists on the goals late in regulation and Zimmer finished with nine saves in the victory.
• Thomas (5-2-12) has three goals and one assist in her last two games, Wu (3-4-10) has two goals and three assists in her last three outings, and McIntyre (4-1-9) has back-to-back two-goal performances.
• Zimmer (1.34 GAA, 80 saves) has played all but six-plus minutes this season in the MIT goal, recording a pair of shutouts and allowing just one goal three other times.

CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
• The Beavers have captured 45 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.
• Babson extended its regular season conference winning streak to 71 games over the last 10 years since a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
• Babson is 30-1 at MacDowell Field since the beginning of the 2023 season and has won 54 of its last 59 home games since 2021.
• Nine of the last 16 wins and 17 of the last 30 home victories have come by way of the shutout.
• The Green and White have won three of four of their home games this season by scores of 2-1, including three in overtime, and have outscored their opponents 69-10 at MacDowell Field since the beginning of last season.

CLIMBING THE CHART
Caroline DiGiovanni has upped her career total to 45 goals, which ranks tied for ninth on the Babson career goals list with Elise Towers '18 and Lauren Curley '22.
• The senior standout also has recorded 95 points to rank 14th all-time.

EXTRA TIME
• Babson is 3-0 in OT this season, winning all three by 2-1 scores.
• The Beavers were a combined 1-2 in overtime the last three seasons and 2-3 in OT from 2019-24.

CALENDAR CLIPS
• Babson has won its last 57 games in the month of October since 2018; the last loss in the 10th month was a 2-1 setback at Montclair State on October 28, 2017.
• The Beavers are 48-3 in weekday games over the past four seasons.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 6-0 in one goal games this season and have won 13 of the last 17 games decided by one goal since 2023.
