No. 3 Field Hockey Hosts Wheaton in Regular Season Finale at MacDowell Field on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have won the last nine and 13 of the last 14 games against Wheaton and have a 28-12-1 advantage over the Lyons in the all-time series that dates back to 1986.
• The last nine Babson wins have been decided by at least three goals with five shutouts.
• The Green and White have won the last five games over Wheaton at MacDowell Field since a 1-0 overtime loss to the Lyons in 2014.

LAST MEETING
• Senior Caroline DiGiovanni scored twice and six different players found the back of the net as No. 6 Babson cruised past Wheaton, 7-0, on September 27, 2024, in Norton, Mass.
• Andrea Marguerite '24 M'25, Berit Sharrow '25, Jessica Evans '25, senior Ally Antonacci and junior Helen DiGiovanni all scored goals in the win. Katie Guden M'25, Ellie Powers '25, seniors Alex Michelotti and Sanne van der Goes collected assists for the Beavers, who had a 28-1 advantage in shots.
• Junior Grace Ferguson had a busy night in the Wheaton goal and finished with nine saves.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 3 Babson (17-1, 8-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to 13 games on Tuesday with a 5-2 verdict over the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.
• Caroline DiGiovanni exploded for a career-high four goals and her 14th career multi-goal game in the win. Sophomore Lauren Golden scored her first career goal for the Beavers, and Michelotti and sophomore Charlotte Roe collected assists. First-year Madison Tibbals made three saves in goal to record the victory.
• DiGiovanni (21-0-42), who has scored in five straight games with 10 goals in that span, leads the NEWMAC in goals and game-winning goals (7). Sophomore Penny Baroni (10-5-25) is in the top 10 in the conference in goals (7th), assists (10th) and points (8th). Junior Ashley Braren (4-1-9) and senior Laney Reed (4-0-8) are tied for third on the team in goals and Michelotti (3-5-11), junior Grace Mullaney (1-5-7) and Roe (1-5-7) share the team lead with Baroni in assists.
• Tibbals (0.95 GAA, .778 sv. pct, 56 saves) has started 17 straight games between the pipes and ranks first in the NEWMAC in conference games in goals against average (0.40) and shutouts (4) and ranks second in save percentage (.842).

SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Wheaton (8-9, 3-5 NEWMAC) snapped a four-game losing skid with a 4-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State Thursday evening in Norton.
• Junior Hannah Fortin tallied a pair of goals and senior Kayla Wilonski and first-year Gia Marotta produced one goal each in the win. Sophomore Kelsey Thompson registered an assist, and first-year Molly Braica made one save in 50 minutes in goal for the Lyons, who outshot the visitors 20-5, including 10-0 in the first quarter.
• Wilonski (9-3-21) has four goals in the last three games, Fortin (7-2-16) registered her first career multi-goal game, and senior Riley Levrault (4-5-13) leads the team in assists and ranks third in goals and points. Sophomore Ava Audette (3-1-7) and Marotta (3-1-7) are also offensive contributors for the Lyons.
• Ferguson (1.57 GAA, .8-9 sv. pct, 93 saves) has started in goal in 14 of the team's 17 games, owns five shutouts and ranks third in the league in save percentage.

SENIOR DAY
• Babson will recognize a group of eight seniors and one graduate student for Senior Day prior to the game, including Ally Antonacci, Josie Ashton, Caroline DiGiovanni, Brooke Jankowski, Alex Michelotti, Caroline Powell, Laney Reed, and Sanne van der Goes and graduate student Lauren Knight.
• The Babson seniors have achieved remarkable success since 2022, registering an overall record of 77-11 (.875).
• This year's team has surpassed the seniors of 2019, who went 72-17 (.809) in their four years, and are approaching the program standard set by last year's seniors of 81-12 (.871).

NEWMAC OUTLOOK
• Babson (8-0) has clinched at least a share of its 10th consecutive conference regular season title and will be the top seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament. A win over Wheaton would give the Green and White nine straight unbeaten conference regular seasons since 2016.
• WPI (7-1), MIT (6-2) and Springfield (5-3) have secured a home game in the tournament, and Wheaton, Smith, Salve Regina and Wellesley are all 3-5 in conference play and battling for the final two playoff berths.

THE MACDOWELL ADVANTAGE
• Babson is 9-0 at home this season and has won 18 in a row at MacDowell Field dating back to last year.
• The Beavers are 34-1 on home turf since the beginning of the 2023 season and have won 58 of its last 63 home games since 2021.
• Thirteen of the last 20 wins and 21 of the last 34 home victories have come by way of the shutout.

STREAKING BEAVERS
• The Beavers have captured 49 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.
• Babson extended its regular season conference winning streak to 75 games over the last 10 years since a 1-0 setback at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Caroline DiGiovanni continues to move up on the Babson career scoring lists. She now ranks sixth on the Babson career goals list with 55, and ninth on the career points list with 115.
• DiGiovanni also reached her career high with 21 goals this season, which ranks tied for seventh on Babson's single-season goals list with Sarah Fredlund '11 and Morgan Lockwood '14.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 7-0 this season in games decided by one goal and have won 26 of 33 games over the past five years in games determined by a single goal.
• The Green and White have won their last 80 games over the past five years when leading at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2021 season, Babson is 87-2 when holding the opponent to no more than one goal. The only losses were 1-0 in overtime at No. 8 Williams in 2024 and 1-0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2022.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will receive a bye in the first round of next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal contest at MacDowell Field (opponent and time are TBA).
