No. 6 Field Hockey Welcomes WPI for NEWMAC Meeting Saturday at MacDowell Field

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have a 28-15 advantage over WPI in the all-time series that dates back to 1985.
• Babson has won 13 in a row over the Engineers since a 3-2 loss in Worcester in 2011.
• The Green and White have outscored WPI 44-5 in those 13 games with eight shutouts.

LAST MEETING
• No. 6 Babson scored three goals in an 11-minute stretch midway through the first half to defeat WPI, 3-0, on October 1, 2024, at H.Carr Field.
Camille Marsh '25 and Jessica Evans '25 and senior Caroline DiGiovanni scored goals for the Green and White. Katie Guden M'25 and Ellie Powers '25 collected assists and Bayla Furmanek '25 registered one save to record her sixth shutout of the season.
• Ella Moreau '25 came off the bench for WPI and made seven saves while allowing just one goal in 45 minutes of action between the pipes.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 6 Babson (9-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) won its fifth straight contest with a 2-1 overtime verdict over Roger Williams on Wednesday evening at MacDowell Field.
• Junior Helen DiGiovanni scored her first goal of the season on a rebound in the fifth minute of OT for the Beavers. Sister Caroline also scored for the Green and White and first-year Madison Tibbals finished with two saves in the victory.
• C. DiGiovanni (10-0-20) has at least one goal in eight of the 10 games this fall. Sophomore Penny Baroni (7-2-16) had a three-game goal streak snapped last Sunday at Trinity, and senior Alex Michelotti (2g, 2a) and junior Grace Mullaney (1g, 4a) have six points each.
• Tibbals (1.39 GAA, 39 saves) has started nine straight games between the pipes and allowed one goal or fewer seven times.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• WPI (8-2, 2-0 NEWMAC) brings a five-game winning streak to Babson Park after a 5-1 conference win at Wheaton on Tuesday evening in Norton, Mass.
• Graduate student Lauren Meinhold scored a pair of goals and WPI tallied three goals in a span of 2:27 in the second half to clinch the victory. Junior Chloe Luongo notched a goal and an assist and seniors Leah Uglevich and Abbey Powers scored once each, and sophomore Myles Lakin made two saves in 52 minutes between the pipes.
• The Engineers feature a balance scoring attack among Meinhold (7-2-16), Powers (6-1-13) and Uglevich (5-1-11) while sophomores Emma Barton (3-3-9) and Madeline Chase (1-3-5) share the team lead in assists and senior Arie Lang (2-2-6) is also a multi-goal scorer.
• Lakin (0.91 GAA, 68 saves) has played all but seven minutes this season in the WPI goal, recording four shutouts and allowing just one goal four other times.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
• Babson is 29-1 at MacDowell Field since the beginning of the 2023 season and has won 53 of its last 58 home games since 2021.
• Eight of the last 15 wins and 16 of the last 29 home victories have come by way of the shutout.
• The Green and White have won all four of their home games this season by scores of 2-1, including three in overtime, and have outscored their opponents 67-10 at MacDowell Field since the beginning of last season.

CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
• Babson has won 70 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games over the last 10 years since a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.
• The Beavers have captured 44 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.

DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN
• Helen DiGiovanni scored the game-winning goal against Roger Williams for the second year in a row, after scoring in the 41st minute in a 1-0 victory last season.
• Caroline DiGiovanni scored the game-winner in a previous 2-1 overtime victory at MacDowell Field over Tufts back on September 17.

EXTRA TIME
• Babson is 3-0 in OT this season, winning all three by 2-1 scores.
• The Beavers were a combined 1-2 in overtime the past three seasons and 2-3 in OT from 2019-24.

CALENDAR CLIPS
• Babson has won its last 56 games in the month of October since 2018; the last loss in the 10th month was a 2-1 setback at Montclair State on October 28, 2017.
• The Beavers are 18-1 on Saturdays over the past three years, and 35-2 to start a weekend since 2021.

CLIMBING THE CHART
Caroline DiGiovanni has upped her career total to 44 goals, which ranks 11th on the Babson career goals list.
• The senior standout also has recorded 91 points to rank 14th all-time.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 6-0 in one goal games this season and have won 13 of the last 17 games decided by one goal since 2023.
• The Green and White have won their last 75 games over the past five years when leading at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2021 season, Babson is 80-2 when holding the opponent to no more than one goal.
