MEDFORD, Mass.—Four singles players and second-seeded doubles pairing of sophomores Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) went unbeaten through the first two rounds of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Friday.

Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) and first-year
Rishi Batlanki (Monroe Township, N.J.) cruised past Conrad Kadel and Aaron Terpko of Endicott 8-0, junior
Louis Bourn (Geneva, Switzerland) and first-year
Maxim Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) were 8-4 winners over Ben Bonetto and Brendan Love of Coast Guard, and graduate student
Ryan Patrick (Darien, Conn.) and senior
Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) topped Eric Diop and Josh Maller of Bates 8-3. Three of Babson's four second round doubles matches went to a tiebreaker, highlighted by Wang and Mendoza edging Thomas Jani and Chase Burke of Wesleyan 8-7 (7-2).
Merson and Batlanki fell to fifth-seeded Nicholas Chen and Simon Volkem of Williams 8-7 (7-3), while Patrick and Mejia dropped an 8-7 (7-4) decision to sixth-seeded Julian Wu and Noah Lewis of Middlebury. Bourn and Zlobinsky also were ousted in an 8-5 loss to Andreas Sillaste and George Chaidemenos of Amherst.
Merson, Wang and Zlobinsky all cruised to straight-set victories in the first round of the 64-player A singles draw. Merson, who is seeded fifth, followed it up with a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5 win over Lewis of Middlebury, while Wang rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Luca Garbati of Trinity in the second round. Zlobinsky won the opening set in his second round match before falling to Middlebury's Wu 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
The Green and White also started the day with three players in the B singles bracket, where first-years
Max Lidman (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Sourish Gadhi (Morganville, N.J.) advanced to Saturday's third round. Top-seeded Lidman was an 8-1 winner of Chase Kasday of Wesleyan, while Gadhi edged Nathan Hernandez of Middlebury in the second round.
Fellow rookie
Dylan O'Connell-DeCerchio (Santa Monica, Calif.) won his opening round match 8-6 over Andrew Nelson of Trinity before dropping an 8-6 decision to Jack Ling of Williams in the second round.
Third round doubles play will get underway at Tufts at 9 a.m. on Saturday with round of 16 singles matches set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
