No. 3 Field Hockey Hosts Salve Regina at MacDowell Field on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have won all eight meetings between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1998.
• The NEWMAC contests in the last two years were the first encounters between the two schools since 2003.
• The Green and White have won all four previous games at MacDowell Field by a combined score of 22-1.

LAST MEETING
• Sophomore Penny Baroni and junior Helen DiGiovanni scored goals six minutes apart in the third quarter as No. 7 Babson got past Salve Regina, 2-1, on October 12, 2024, at Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I.
Berit Sharrow '25 and junior Ashley Braren registered assists for the Beavers, and Bayla Furmanek '25 made five saves in goal in the win.
• Senior Julia Decker notched a fourth-quarter goal for the Seahawks, and Bryn Protheroe '25 finished with 10 saves in goal in the loss.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 3 Babson (15-1, 7-0 NEWMAC) brings an 11-game winning streak into Saturday's game after pulling out a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Springfield on Tuesday evening.
• Senior Caroline DiGiovanni broke a 1-1 tie on the go-ahead goal with less than 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Baroni also scored for the Beavers, senior Alex Michelotti and first-year Anna Bonazzoli produced assists, and first-year Madison Tibbals earned the win in goal without making any saves as the Beavers had a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.
• DiGiovanni (16-0-32) is second in the NEWMAC in goals and tied for second in points while Baroni (10-5-25) is in the top 10 in the conference in goals, assists and points. The Babson duo is also 1-2 in the conference with five and four game-winning goals, respectively. Braren (4-1-9) and Michelotti (3-3-9) are tied for third on the team in scoring, and junior Grace Mullaney (1-5-7) shares the team lead in assists.
• Tibbals (0.94 GAA, .781 sv. pct, 50 saves) has started 15 straight games between the pipes and leads the league in goals against average, is tied for the lead in shutouts (5), and ranks fifth in save percentage.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
• Salve Regina (10-5, 3-4 NEWMAC) broke a three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 4-3 overtime victory over Wheaton in Middletown, R.I.
• Senior Angelina Regels tallied the game-winning goal with 23 seconds remaining in the first overtime with classmate Georgia Costello picking up her third assist. First-year Elliot Lund produced a goal and an assist, sophomore Reese Interrante and Decker also scored for the Seahawks, and first-year Siany Ortez made five saves in goal in the win.
• The Seahawks have a strong 1-2 punch as Decker (18-6-42) leads the NEWMAC in goals and points and Costello (13-8-34) is fourth in goals, tied for the lead in assists and ranks second in points. Lund (8-7-23) ranks in the top 10 in the league in all three categories, junior Jordyn Pineau (2-7-11) is tied for second on the team in assists, and senior Bella Gannon (4-2-10) has three game-winning goals.
• Ortez (1.55 GAA, .781 sv. pct, 82 saves) has started all 15 games in goal for the Seahawks, owns three shutouts and ranks fifth in the league in goals against average.

NEWMAC RACE
• Babson sits alone in first place with a 7-0 conference record with WPI (6-1) alone in second, MIT (5-2) by itself in third, and Springfield (4-3) alone in fourth.
• Salve Regina, Wheaton, Wellesley and Smith all have 3-4 conference records and are battling for the final two playoff berths.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
• Babson is 8-0 at home this season and has won 17 in a row at MacDowell Field dating back to last year.
• The Beavers are 33-1 on home turf since the beginning of the 2023 season and have won 57 of its last 62 home games since 2021.
• Twelve of the last 19 wins and 20 of the last 33 home victories have come by way of the shutout.

WEEKLY HONORS
• Babson swept this week's NEWMAC weekly honors for the second straight week as DiGiovanni and Bonazzoli were named Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week on Monday.
• This recognition comes on the heels of Baroni and Tibbals receiving the same awards last week for the Green and White.

WELCOME TO THE CLUBS
• After joining the 100-point club last Saturday, Caroline DiGiovanni became the ninth player in program history to score 50 career goals with her game-winner at Springfield on Tuesday.
• The senior standout is now tied with Brianne McGrath '23 M'24 for eighth on Babson's all-time goals list, and ranks 11th on the career points list with 105 (50g, 5a).

CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
• The Beavers have captured 48 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.
• Babson extended its regular season conference winning streak to 74 games over the last 10 years since a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 7-0 this season in games decided by one goal and have won 26 of 33 games over the past five years in games determined by a single goal.
• The Green and White have won their last 78 games over the past five years when leading at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2021 season, Babson is 86-2 when holding the opponent to no more than one goal. The only losses were 1-0 in overtime at No. 8 Williams in 2024 and 1-0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2022.
