Men's Golf Concludes Fall Schedule Against Strong Field at Tartan Invitational

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's golf team will conclude the fall portion of its schedule by competing in the 54-hole Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon for the first time in program history on Monday and Tuesday. 
•    The Beavers are one of 16 teams that will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday to determine a champion at Laurel Valley Golf Club. 

ABOUT LAUREL VALLEY GOLF CLUB
•    Laurel Valley, which opened in 1959, was designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by the late Arnold Palmer. 
•    Located just south of Pittsburgh, Pa., the course hosted the 1965 PGA Championship, the 1975 Ryder Cup, the 1989 US Senior Open and the 2005 Senior PGA Championship. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    Babson is coming off a 14th-place finish at the 54-hole West Pines Invitational in Georgia last Tuesday. 
•    Sophomore Aman Vantipalli closed with a 3-under 68 to finish in a tie for 11th place at 2-over 215 and senior Colin Fowler opened with a 71 and tied for 52nd position at 12-over 225 for the Beavers, who had finished second in 2023 and fourth in 2024 at West Pines Golf Club. 
•    Vantipalli has finished under par twice over his last five rounds and leads the team with a 72.50 stroke average, junior Jack Berry (73.63) has finished under par three times and owns a pair of top-15 finishes, and Fowler is third on the squad with a 74.13 average in eight starts this fall. 
•    The Green and White, which finished first at the Williams Invitational and second at the Duke Nelson Invitational, boasts a 294.00 team scoring average in eight rounds including three scores of 293 or better this fall. 

DIVISION III'S BEST MEET IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
•    The 16-team Tartan Invitational field features 11 nationally-ranked programs and two other squads that are receiving votes in the most recent GCAA Division III poll. 
•    The top eight teams in the latest GCAA poll – No. 1 Emory, No. 2 Methodist, No. 3 Oglethorpe, No. 4 Carnegie Mellon, No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 6 Huntingdon, No. 7 Sewanee and No. 8 Washington & Lee – are all set to compete in addition to 18th-ranked Lynchburg, 19th-ranked Guilford and No. 23 Rochester. 

GOING LOW
•    Babson has had at least one player finish under par in five of its first eight rounds this fall. 
•    Berry finished under par in both rounds to begin the season at the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury's Ralph Myhre Golf Club on September 13-14 in addition to shooting a 1-under 70 in the second round of the Williams Invitational.
•    Vantipalli fired a career-best 66 in the second round of the Williams Invitational to go along with his final round 68 at the West Pines College, while sophomore Chad Tordone (first round) and Fowler (second round) both posted rounds of 1-under 70 at Williams' Taconic Golf Club. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers have recorded a score of 295 or better in five of their first eight rounds this fall.
•    Babson has posted an average team score of 888.40 over 30 rounds in its 10 54-hole tournaments over the last three seasons. 
•    The Beavers' top 54-hole score over the last three seasons came at the 2024 West Pines Collegiate (872), and the Green and White has posted 54-hole totals of 874 (Williams) and 890 (West Pines) this fall. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers will begin the spring portion of their schedule in early March at the Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C.
