Senior goalkeeper Emily Scharnitzky (Charleston, S.C.) made seven saves for the Bears, who were outshot 17-9 over 90 minutes by the Green and White.
Despite finishing in a scoreless deadlock, both sides created quality scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. Babson sophomore
Caroline Sutherland (Millville, Mass.) drilled a shot from the edge of the six-yard box just over the crossbar in the second minute and first-year
Josie Lee (Duxbury, Mass.) saw her first touch go just wide of the left post in the fifth minute.
Coast Guard junior Mia Forti (Madison, Conn.) forced a save from Ryan with a low shot through traffic in the sixth minute and then saw her 20-yard rocket bang off the crossbar in the 24th minute. The Beavers' best chance of the game came just over five minutes later senior
Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) headed classmate
Jordyn Ferrantino's (Millis, Mass.) cross towards the upper right corner only to see Scharnitzky push it off the crossbar and out of danger.
The teams combined for just two shots on target in the second half and Babson's best scoring chance came in the 57th minute when a cross from the right wing by Ferrantino skipped past Scharnitsky before being cleared away at the back post before Lee was able to get a touch.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson hosts WPI at 3:30 p.m., while Coast Guard takes on U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 6 p.m.
