Rodriguez Earns All-America Second-Team Honors with 12th Place Finish in 10,000 Meters at NCAA Division III Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—Babson College senior Anthony Rodriguez (Prairie View, Ill.) finished 12th in the men's 10,000-meter run to earn All-America second-team honors at the NCAA Division III Championship meet on Thursday night at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

On a hot and humid night, Rodriguez posted a time of 31:24.63 that ranks fifth in program history. He was less than three seconds off the lead as the 22-man field stayed in a tight pack over the first two-thirds of the race.

Rodriguez moved up six spots from 19th to 13th position on the 18th of 25 laps and maintained his position down the stretch, coming in just under 10 seconds behind Gavin McElhennon of Johns Hopkins and 1.45 seconds ahead of David Reynolds of WPI.

Spencer Moon of Simpson (Iowa) made a late push to come in first with a time of 30:41.91, while Tyler Schermerhorn of Wartburg (30:45.53) and Simon Hays of Wilmington (30:47.56) finished second and third, respectively.

Rodriguez, who earned NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, was making his debut at the track national championships after qualifying for the Division III National Championship in both 2021 and 2022.

Babson will wrap up its season on Friday when senior Eric Bottern (Saint Paul, Minn.) competes in the shot put for the second year in a row beginning at 1:30 p.m.
