NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Babson College men's track & field team set one program record and qualified two athletes to the New England Division III Regionals Saturday afternoon at the Coast Guard Invitational at the Nitchman Track.
Senior
Eric Bottern (Saint Paul, Minn.) broke his own program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.42 meters (158-feet, 10-inches), which was good for a third-place showing. He also took second place in the shot put with a mark of 16.35 meters (53-feet, 7.75-inches), just six inches shy of the winning mark by Ethan Wilkie of Trinity. Bottern was also ninth in the discus with a mark of 35.66 meters (117-feet even).
First-year
Chris McDonough (North Andover, Mass.) had a strong meet for the Beavers, taking first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.75 seconds. He also placed seventh in the long jump with a New England qualifying leap of 6.56 meters (21-feet, 6.25-inches). McDonough anchored Babson's 4x100 meter relay team that included first-years
Aryan Dass (New Delhi, India) and
Kainoa Ronquilio (Waipahu, Hawaii) and senior
Michael Agard (Marietta, Ga.) that took first place with a time of 42.65 seconds, which currently ranks first in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Junior
Jack Reynolds (Fairfield, Conn.) took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 3.75 inches, which is a New England regional qualifying performance. Senior
Anthony Rodriguez (Prairie View, Ill.) finished runner-up in the 5000 meters in a time of 14:58.86.
The Beavers registered four other third-place finishes – Ronquilio in the 400 meters (51.59), first-year
Gabe Rosenberg (Silver Spring, Md.) in the 110 hurdles (16.14 seconds), first-year
Stratton Seymour (Merrimac, Mass.) in the 400 hurdles (58.54), and first-year
Nicolas Kube (Dover, Mass.) in the javelin (169-feet, 11-inches).
Ronquilio and senior
Demarre Johnson (Dallas, Texas) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 meters in times of 22.30 and 22.86. The Beavers' 4x400 meter relay team of Dass, Jonson, sophomore
Max Gregoire (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and first-year
Niko Manolakos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took fifth place in a time of 3:34.70.
Babson returns to New London, Conn., to compete at the Silfen Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Connecticut College.
