Softball Opens Play at The Spring Games in Central Florida on Saturday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson softball team travels to central Florida for 10 contests over six days at The Spring Games beginning on Saturday.
•    The Beavers will face a pair of opponents on Saturday, Sunday and Monday before taking a day off on Tuesday. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Chicago: Babson is 1-1 all-time after defeating the Maroons, 9-1, last March.
vs. Bethel: the Beavers are 6-0 all-time versus the Royals although the teams have not met since 2013. 
vs. Geneseo: Babson is 3-2 all-time against the Knights, which includes a 6-5 victory last March in Florida. 
vs. Hamilton: Babson is 6-0 all-time against Hamilton, which includes an 11-3 victory last March in Winter Haven, Fla. 
vs. Plymouth State: the Beavers are 6-1 versus Plymouth State and have won the last six contests between the teams, which includes an 11-3 five-inning victory in Clermont, Fla., in March of 2018.

SCOUTING BABSON
•    The Beavers (1-4) have dropped two straight contests and suffered a 6-4 loss to Wartburg in their final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic last Sunday. 
•    First-year Emily Walsh batted .400 (6-for-15) with two RBI and three stolen bases, graduate student Kate Karamouzis hit .364 a double, six walks and one RBI, and first-year Charlotte Raymond batted .273 with a home run and a team-high four runs batted in. 
•    Senior Moira O'Reilly (0-3, 2.80 ERA) recorded 24 strikeouts in 20.0 innings pitched over three starts, while first-year Katie Vlacich went 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in three appearances in the circle. 

SCOUTING CHICAGO
•    The Maroons (3-1) have won three straight games and wrapped up the Fontbonne Classic with a 13-1 six-inning victory over Monmouth back on February 25. 
•    Natalie Antin went 9-for-13 (.692) at the plate with a double and four runs scored, Madeline Murphy hit .538 with three extra-base hits and six runs batted in, and Anna Jensen batted .250 with a walk and four runs scored in four starts. 
•    The trio of Paige Heffke (1-1, 0.54 ERA), Delaney Romanchick (1-0, 1.40 ERA) and Alana Kimball (1-0, 1.40 ERA) allowed just three earned runs over 25 innings and held opposing batters to a .191 average. 

SCOUTING BETHEL
•    The 11th-ranked Royals (3-1) recorded three one-run victories and wrapped up the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 3-2 win over No. 21 Central last Sunday. 
•    Lexi DeBace was 6-for-11 (.545) at the plate with a double and three runs scored, Kayla Hokanson batted .500 with a double, a homer and four RBI, and Abby Otterness hit .500 with a double, a home run and three runs batted in. 
•    Kayla Simacek (2-1, 2.33 ERA) started three of four games and recorded 22 strikeouts over 21.0 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .167 average. 

SCOUTING SUNY GENESEO
•    The Knights (0-0) return 16 players from a team that went 25-18-1 and advanced to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament in 2023. 
•    Brooke Fraas hit .412 with 13 extra-base hits, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored, Rebecca Schwartz batted .397 with 11 doubles, 23 RBI and 32 runs scored and Kaitlyn Schmitz finished with a .381 average to go along with 16 doubles, three triples, three homers and a team-high 38 runs batted in. 
•    Schmitz went 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 81.2 innings, while Sydney Bolton was 2-2 with a 4.04 earned run average in 34.2 innings of work. 

SCOUTING HAMILTON
•    The Continentals (0-0) return 14 from players from a team that went 19-20 overall and 7-11 in the NESCAC last spring. 
•    Emma Tansky batted .413 with 14 stolen bases, 10 RBI and 30 runs scored, Charlie Quinn hit .369 with seven doubles and 30 runs batted in, and Alessandra Priante finished with a .312 average to go along with two doubles, two triples and 17 runs batted in. 
•    Tansky went 8-7 with a 3.98 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 103.2 innings, while Natalie Beebe was 9-9 with a 4.70 earned run average and 87 strikeouts in 101.1 innings of work last season. 

SCOUTING PLYMOUTH STATE
•    The Panthers (0-0) bring back 11 players from a team that went 13-21 overall last season. 
•    Jade Guertin batted .307 with five doubles, a triple, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored, Abbey Nezuch hit .292 with six doubles, a home run, 19 RBI and 11 runs scored, and Mia Ly finished with year with a .277 average with eight extra-base hits and 13 runs batted in. 
•    Kate McGrath went 5-7 with a 2.92 earned run average over 64.2 innings, while Emily Antrim finished the 2023 campaign with a 5-8 record to go along with a 3.14 ERA in a team-high 84.2 innings pitched. 

SCOUTING GETTYSBURG
•    The Bullets (2-0) opened the season with a pair of one-run wins at Shenandoah last Sunday. 
•    Audrey Bergan had four hits, Julia Smith and Giovanna Komst finished with three hits apiece and Paige Forry allowed just one run over 6.0 innings to record a win and a save in the doubleheader. 
•    Gettysburg returns 16 players from a team that went 24-14-1 in 2023, highlighted by Lauren O'Leary, who batted .322 with eight doubles, four triples, six home runs and 22 RBI, and Forry, who went 14-6 with a 1.85 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 121.1 innings in the circle. 

SPRING BREAK SUCCESS
•    Junior Athena Hadjipanayis batted .382 with four doubles, four RBI and 12 runs scored in 10 starts during Babson's spring break trip to Florida last March. 
•    Fellow junior Sara Moore hit .375 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, five stolen bases and 11 runs scored, while senior Caroline Taylor batted .355 with two doubles and eight runs batted in on last year's trip to Florida. 

KARAMOUZIS RECORDS 100TH HIT
•    With an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning against East Texas Baptist last Sunday, Karamouzis collected the 100th base hit of her career. 
•    After totaling just 25 at-bats across the pandemic seasons of 2020 and 2021, Karamouzis hit .324 with 44 hits in 48 games in 2022 and set new career highs in batting average (.348) and hits (46) over 45 contests last spring. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    Moore passed Eileen Barrett '95 and is now third in program history with 48 stolen bases behind only Andrea Cartullo '07 (63) and Courtney Thurston '09 (54). 
•    Karamouzis earned six free passes in five games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic to move into seventh place on the Beavers' all-time list with 58 career walks. She needs just four more to move into the top five. 
•    O'Reilly, who already ranks first all-time with 558 strikeouts, is tied for fourth in program history in shutouts (15), fifth in wins (44) and ranks seventh in innings pitched (399.2). 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Three of the Beavers' five games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic were tied after six innings. 
•    Babson is 27-17 since the start of 2022 in games decided by one or two runs.
•    The Green and White is 17-2 when outhitting its opponents dating back to the start of last season.
•    Babson is 12-6 at The Spring Games over the last two seasons.

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers will conclude their trip to central Florida with games against Carroll and McDaniel next Wednesday and Wooster and Curry next Thursday.
