Softball Opens NEWMAC Play at Home on Saturday Against Coast Guard

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 32-37 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 1991.
•    The Beavers have won seven of their last eight games against the Bears, which includes taking two of three meetings last season.
•    The Green and White has won four of its last five games versus Coast Guard at Alumni Field going back to 2021.

LAST MEETING
•    Graduate student Kate Karamouzis knocked in a pair of runs and senior Moira O'Reilly tossed a complete-game two-hitter to help Babson defeat Coast Guard, 2-0, in a NEWMAC Tournament elimination game on May 6, 2023, in Cambridge, Mass. 
•    Junior Sara Moore doubled and scored in the first inning and senior Caroline Taylor came across in the third in support of O'Reilly, who fanned six and retired the final 16 batters she faced after allowing a two-out single in the second. 
•    Christine Carey tripled in the first inning and the duo of Isabelle Shroyer and Dana Walker combined for nine strikeouts in the loss for the Bears. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (7-8, 0-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to five with a 7-2 victory over Curry on March 14 to conclude its spring break trip to central Florida. 
•    Graduate student Cassidy Musco went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Moore, Karamouzis, graduate student Michaela Rusell and first-year Emily Walsh each drove in a run for the Beavers, who matched their season high with six stolen bases in the win. 
•    Moore is batting .438 with three extra-base hits, 12 stolen bases and 11 runs scored, first-year Ruby Madia is hitting .325 with two doubles and two runs batted in, and Walsh enters the weekend with a .311 average to go along with a double, six stolen bases, nine RBI and six runs scored. 
•    O'Reilly is 3-5 with a 1.32 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched, while first-year Katie Vlacich is 4-3 with a 3.47 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 46.2 innings of work. 

SCOUTING THE BEARS
•    Coast Guard (1-9, 0-0 NEWMAC) enters league play on a three-game losing streak after falling to Roger Williams 8-4 in the back end of a doubleheader back on March 20. 
•    Lillia Farlow went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Gracie Hare was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Bears, who recorded a season-high 14 hits in the loss. 
•    Shroyer is batting .400 with five RBI and two runs scored, Julia Breidenthal is hitting .323 with three doubles and three RBI and Carey enters the day with a .320 average to go along with a double, a triple, five RBI and two runs scored. 
•    Walker is 1-4 with a 3.25 ERA over 36.2 innings of work, while Shroyer is 0-3 with a 4.57 earned run average in 15.1 innings pitched this spring. 

MOORE, O'REILLY SWEEP NEWMAC WEEKLY AWARDS
•    After helping Babson going 5-1 over its final six games in Florida, Moore was tabbed as the NEWMAC Player of the Week, while O'Reilly earned conference pitcher of the week accolades back on March 21. 
•    Moore went 11-for-18 (.611) at the plate with one double, four RBI, eight stolen bases and five runs scored, and recorded three multi-hit games. 
•    O'Reilly, who has not allowed an earned run in 34.2 innings going back to March 9, won all three of her starts and went 3-1 with a 0.82 WHIP and recorded 47 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. 

POLLING NUMBERS
•    Babson received a pair of first-place votes and was picked to finish second in the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll back in February. 
•    The Beavers finished behind defending league champions MIT, while Springfield, Coast Guard and WPI rounded out the top five. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    The only pitcher in Babson history to record more than 600 strikeouts, O'Reilly ranks third all-time in wins (47), is tied for third in shutouts (16) and ranks sixth in innings pitched (434.1), starts (63), appearance (72) and complete games (49). 
•    Moore has moved into second place on the program's all-time list with 58 stolen bases and is just five away from Babson's career record of 63 set by Andrea Cartullo '07. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Walsh and Moore, who has reached base in 12 straight contests, are both riding four-game hitting streaks. 
•    Musco and sophomore Athena Hadjipanayis have both reached bases in three straight games, while Karamouzis, Madia and sophomore Sophia Pak have a hit in each of their last two outings. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Over her last three starts against Coast Guard, O'Reilly has allowed just one unearned run and is 3-0 with a 0.39 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 23.0 innings.
•    Babson is 6-1 this spring when allowing two runs or fewer. 
•    The Beavers have at least one stolen base in 11 straight games and rank 43rd in Division III in stolen bases per game (2.60). 
•    The Green and White is 4-1 this season when leading after four innings. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers travel to Springfield next Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
