RALEIGH, N.C.—
Babson College senior Eric Bottern (Saint Paul, Minn.) placed 22 out of 47 competitors in the shot put at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University on Thursday afternoon.

Competing in the third of four flights as one of just two Division III athletes in the field, Bottern opened with a throw of 51-feet, 4.50 inches before recording his top result of the day (51-feet, 4.50-inches) in round two. His final throw went 50-feet, 10-75-inches as he fell just over three feet shy of finishing in the top nine to qualify for the finals.

Bottern, who entered the day with the top Division III mark of the season in the shot put (53-feet, 2.25-inches), set a school record with a throw of 56-feet, 8.75-inches last spring.

First-year Chris McDonough (North Andover, Mass.) will compete in the 100-meter dash at the Raleigh Relays on Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
