Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla.—Senior
Moira O'Reilly (Columbus, Ohio) and first-year
Katie Vlacich (Concord, N.H.) both recorded complete-game shutouts as Babson College extended its winning streak to three with a pair of victories.
The Beavers (5-8) defeated Carroll University, 2-0, in their opening game of the day before edging McDaniel College, 1-0, in game two.
Babson 2, Carroll 0
O'Reilly (2-5) struck out 10 while giving up three hits and walking four to record her first shutout of the season and the 16th of her career. First-year
Emily Walsh (Flemington, N.J.) singled and drove in two runs, classmate
Ruby Madia (Princeton Junction, N.J.) singled and walked and junior
Sara Moore (Kennett Square, Pa.) opened the game with a bunt base hit for the Beavers.
Junior Riley Pavelka (Naperville, Ill.) was terrific in the circle for the Pioneers allowing a pair of unearned runs on three hits while striking out two and walking four in a complete-game effort. Sophomore Abby Curtis (Oshkosh, Wis.) went 1-for-3 at the plate and swiped a pair of bags in the loss.
Scoreless after six innings, the Green and White finally broke the deadlock in the top of the seventh. Graduate student
Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) reached on an error and advanced to second when classmate
Cassidy Musco (Walpole, Mass.) drew a two-out walk. Both runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball and raced home on Walsh's base hit through the right side.
Carroll, which left the bases loaded in the third, had runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but graduate student
Kate Karamouzis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) gunned down senior Sydney Radderman (East Troy, Wis.) trying to steal second to end the game.
Babson left eight runners on base while the Pioneers stranded seven in the loss.
Babson 1, McDaniel 0
Vlacich (3-3) struck out five and gave up just two hits on the way to recording her first collegiate shutout. Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate and sophomore
Sophia Pak (New Rochelle, N.Y.) doubled and scored for the Beavers.
First-year Libertie Schatzman (Bonita Springs, Fla.) allowed just one run on four hits while striking out two and dropped to a 2-1 with the loss for the Green Terror. Senior Paytyn Hazelton (West Palm Beach, Fla.), who recorded a stolen base, and first-year Ashley Shawyer (Huntingtown, Md.) each singled in the loss.
Both pitchers were sharp as neither team had a runner advance to third through the first five innings. Babson, which stranded runners in the second and third, scored the only run of the game in the sixth as Pak led off with a double and moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Andi Gabler (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) before scoring on Moore's one-out single.
Vlacich allowed a one-out single in the second and another in the fourth but ended both innings with a strikeout to keep the game scoreless. She did not allow a base runner over the final three frames and retired the final 11 McDaniel batters of the game.
Babson wraps up its trip to Florida on Thursday when it faces Wooster at 11:30 a.m. and Curry at 4 p.m. in Clermont.
