Women's Lacrosse Set to Host No. 1 Middlebury on Sunday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 1-5 all-time against Middlebury in a series that dates back to 2009.
• The Beavers have dropped four straight in the series since defeating the Panthers at home back in 2010.

LAST MEETING
• The trio of Jane Earley '23 and juniors Hope Shue and Maggie Coughlin combined for nine first-quarter goals as No. 1 Middlebury defeated visiting Babson, 20-5, on March 5 at Peter Kohn Field in Middlebury, Vt.
Emily Curtis '23M scored three times and senior Nicole Darveau finished with two goals for the Beavers. Erin Jayne '23 led all players with three assists, junior Clare Connolly finished with four draw controls, Maeve Williams '23 registered two caused turnovers and junior goalkeeper Kathleen Murphy made seven saves and recorded a game-high four ground balls in the loss.
• Early scored four times, while Shue, Coughlin and junior Anna Spehr all tallied three goals apiece for the Panthers. Fellow junior Kelcey Dion and senior Abby Hillebrecht each dished out two assists, while Early finished with a game-high nine draw controls. Annie Enrietto '23 and junior Gina Driscoll also combined to make three saves in the victory.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (1-0) is coming off a 20-8 victory over Framingham State in the season opener on Tuesday at MacDowell Field.
• Graduate student Lily Ives finished with seven goals and two assists in her Babson debut and junior Amelia Novitch finished with five goals and two assists in the win. Connolly scored three times and won five draws, junior Jessica Evans notched two goals, and classmate Kathryn Blake scored once and dished out a game-high three assists for the Beavers. Senior Zoë Michaud led all players with four caused turnovers and Murphy stopped eight shots to earn the win between the pipes.
• Evans (27-11-38) is the top returning scorer from last year, along with Darveau (23-6-29) and Blake (21-5-26). Senior Eileen Manning (37 GB, 27 CT) is the top returning defender, and Connolly led all of Division III with a program-record 228 draw controls.
• Murphy, who has played every minute in goal over the past three seasons, is a two-time All-Conference selection and an All-Region goalie in 2022.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
• No. 1 Middlebury (0-0), the two-time defending national champions, opens its season at No. 18 Amherst on Saturday before visiting the Beavers on Sunday.
• Shue returns to lead the Panthers, earning First Team All-America last year after scoring a program record 83 goals and accumulating 105 points. Coughlin (32-23-55) was an All-Region honoree and Dion (32-16-48) is also a key returnee on offense. Senior Susan Rowley (40-5-45) is a returning First Team All-America in the midfield and Kylie Wilson (28 CT, 31 GB) was a Third Team All-America on defense.
• The Panthers will have a new look in goal following the graduation of Annie Enrietto, who started every game last season, posting a perfect 23-0 record during the championship run.
• Middlebury has lost just one game in the past two season on the way to national titles. The Panthers are 70-2 with three national championships going back to 2019.

BABSON VS. THE NESCAC
• Sunday's contest is the first of three Babson games this season against schools from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The Beavers will also host No. 13 Trinity on March 24 and visit No. 18 Amherst on April 14.
• Babson is seeking its first win vs. the NESCAC since a 13-12 victory over Williams on April 7, 2022.
• Seven NESCAC schools are currently ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 25.

NATIONALLY RANKED FOES
• Sunday's contest is also the first of five Babson games this season against ranked teams.
• In addition to the three NESCAC games, the Beavers will travel to No. 19 Chicago on March 10 and No. 21 MIT on April 10.

BEAVER BITES
• Evans and Connolly have both scored goals in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.
• Novitch's five goals against Framingham State matched her career high set in her second collegiate game, a 15-5 win over Vassar on March 6, 2022.
• Michaud's four caused turnovers equaled her career high set in a season-opening 11-10 loss to Skidmore on February 25, 2023.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 14-0 since the start of last season and 56-3 since the start of 2018 when scoring 12 or more goals.
• Babson has won 22 of its last 23 games over the past three seasons when holding its foes to 10 goals or fewer.
• The Green and White are 13-2 since last season and 53-3 since the start of 2018 when leading at halftime.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will make their first road trip next Sunday during Spring Break with visit to the University of Chicago to take on the Maroons at 3 p.m. (ET).
