Marsh's Late Goals Help No. 7 Field Hockey Get Past Connecticut College, 3-1

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Junior Camille Marsh (Englewood, Colo.) scored a pair of fourth-quarter goals to help seventh-ranked Babson College defeat upset-minded Connecticut College, 3-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at Silfen Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 on the year while Connecticut College starts 0-1.

Graduate student Meara Hanyon (Brodheadsville, Pa.) scored her second goal of the season in the first quarter and junior Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) finished with one save for the Beavers.

Senior Bridget Mason (East Greenwich, R.I.) had a goal and sophomore Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) contributed an assist for the Camels, who got 11 saves from Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) in her collegiate debut.

Winemaster made three early saves, which included back-to-back stops on shots by graduate student Jackie Hill (Franklin, N.H.) and Marsh before Hanyon gave the Green and White a 1-0 lead on her penalty stroke 9:58 into the match. Furmanek made her only stop of the game with a kick save at the right post 47 seconds into the second and Marsh hit the post with a rocket from just inside the top of the circle in transition a minute into the third period to keep it a one-goal game.

Connecticut College pulled even with 1:13 left in the third on Mason's first goal of the year. The Beavers were unable to clear the ball in front of goal and she tipped home McCann's feed at the back post. Babson regained the lead exactly four minutes later though on Marsh's first marker of the year.

Junior Jessica Evans' (Southbury, Conn.) centering pass from the end line took a deflection and Marsh was able to hammer it through traffic for a 2-1 lead. She tacked on a key insurance goal with 6:50 remaining collecting a loose ball on the left side of the circle and blasting it past Winemaster and inside the left post.

The Green and White finished with a 24-9 edge in shots and attempted 14 of the 16 penalty corners in the game.

Babson returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Roger Williams at 6 p.m., while Connecticut College takes on No. 6 Tufts on Saturday at 12 p.m.
