Men's Soccer Hosts Suffolk Under the Lights on Tuesday

SERIES HISTORY
  • Babson and Suffolk will meet for the third consecutive season and fourth time overall on Tuesday night in a series that dates back to 2006.
  • The Beavers are 2-0-1 all-time against the Rams.
 
LAST MEETING
  • Ben Williams M'23 and Rodrigo Madiedo '23 both recorded a goal and an assist to help the Beavers defeat Suffolk, 7-0, on October 4, 2022, in Babson Park.
  • Senior Liam Rhatigan and junior Matias Gutierrez each scored once and sophomore Troy Stacey collected two late assists for Babson, which scored three times over the final 16 minutes of the first half to build a 4-0 lead at the break.
  • Junior goalkeeper Xander Balog finished with seven saves in defeat for the Rams.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
  • Babson (2-0) back up Friday's season-opening victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine) with a 1-0 win over Texas-Dallas on Sunday afternoon. 
  • Graduate student Justin Stone headed home a corner kick by classmate Sam Morgan in the 59th minute and junior Walker White finished with five saves to record his ninth career shutout.
  • Rhatigan has a goal and classmate Lorenzo Mancini and first-year Will Lloyd have both registered an assist over the Green and White's first two matches.
  • White boasts a 0.71 goals against average and a .821 save percentage in 23 career starts for Babson, which went 15-3-3 and captured its third straight NEWMAC Tournament crown last year.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
  • Suffolk (2-0) followed up Friday's 3-1 victory over Emmanuel with a 1-0 win over Salem State on Saturday afternoon.
  • Matthew Belluardo scored the lone goal of the match in the 21st minute and Nathan Harlow recorded his first career clean sheet with five saves for the Rams.
  • Senior Brady Sorensen, junior Erik Van Even and sophomore Diego Pierantozzi all scored in the season opener and the junior trio of Tommy Handelsman, Taj Jensen and Miguel Varela have each registered an assist over the first two matches.
  • Harlow and Balog have both made one start on the year for Suffolk, which finished 10-6-5 and reached the CCC Tournament final last season.
STREAKING BEAVERS
  • Babson, which closed the 2022 season with an eight-game unbeaten streak, is now 9-0-1 over its last 10 matches.
  • The Beavers' 10-game unbeaten streak its their longest since going 11 matches between losses in 2016.
  • The Green and White also has won its last 10 games at home, a run which includes nine consecutive shutouts dating back to October 1 of last year.
FAMILIAR PLACE ATOP THE POLL
  • After winning its third straight NEWMAC Tournament championship last November, Babson was picked to repeat when the conference released its preseason coaches' poll in late August. 
  • The Beavers collected seven of a possible nine first-place votes to finish atop the poll with 61 points ahead of Wheaton, MIT, WPI and last year's conference tournament runner-up, Emerson. 
TUESDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
  • The Beavers will move to MacDowell Field for their first nighttime home game since 2018 on Tuesday. 
  • Babson play six home games on MacDowell Field in 2018 going 5-1 with victories under the lights against Bridgewater State, Eastern Connecticut State and Wheaton in the NEWMAC semifinals. 
NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • The Green and White is 28-0-2 when scoring first dating back to the start of the 2021 campaign. 
  • Babson has won 19 consecutive matches when taking a lead into halftime, a run that stretches back to October 2019.
  • The Beavers are 10-3-1 in matches on field turf going back to the beginning of the 2021 season. 
  • In its last six games decided by a single goal, Babson is 6-0.

  • The Beavers travel to New Jersey to face Montclair State at 7 p.m. on Friday and No. 3 Stevens on Sunday at 1 p.m.
