Men's Soccer Downs Texas-Dallas, 1-0

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Justin Stone (Cary, N.C.) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 59th minute to help Babson College earn a hard-fought 1-0 win over the University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 on the year and runs its unbeaten streak to 10 games going back to last year. Texas-Dallas slips to 0-1-1 on the season.

Graduate student Sam Morgan (Charles Town, W. Va.) added an assist and junior goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) finished with five saves to record his ninth career shutout for the Beavers. His counterpart, Comets' junior Michael Hesse (Pearland, Texas), made three saves in the loss.

The teams combined for just one shot on target in the opening half with the with the best scoring chance coming during a flurry of late pressure by Babson. The hosts earned three straight corner kicks, the second coming after Hesse was forced to punch the ball out of danger after sophomore Robin Pestka's (Highland Park, N.J.) shot from distance glanced off the head of a Texas-Dallas defender.

The Comets nearly went in front less than two minutes into the second half only to see Walker deny Kane Kidwell's (Bangkok, Thailand) blast from point-blank range to keep the game scoreless. The Green and White took the lead at the 58:14 mark when Stone made a near post run and drilled Morgan's corner kick inside the left post for his first goal of the season.

Texas-Dallas was unable to come up with a late equalizer despite creating multiple opportunities late in the match. Senior Vaughn Morgan (Garland, Texas) sent his 20-yard free kick just over the crossbar in the 76th minute and Walker pushed away a shot from distance by sophomore Luke Harris (Richardson, Texas) that was headed for the upper right corner in the 80th minute to preserve the Beavers' lead.

The Comets finished with a 16-10 edge in shots while both teams attempted five corner kicks. The sides also combined for 47 fouls and six yellow cards.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Suffolk at 7 p.m., while Texas-Dallas travels to San Antonio to meet Trinity (Texas) on Friday.
