Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student
Sam Morgan (Charles Town, W. Va.) had a hand in both goals to help Babson College defeat visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
With its third straight victory, Babson improves to 5-2-1 overall. Eastern Connecticut State drops to 1-2-1 with the loss.
Morgan scored once and had an assist and fellow graduate student
Justin Stone (Cary, N.C.) produced a goal for the Beavers. First-year
Will Anderson (Tampa, Fla.) recorded his first collegiate assist and junior goalkeeper
Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) made one save to post his fifth shutout of the year.
Senior Dylan Pallanck (Willington, Conn.) made five of his six saves in the opening half for the Warriors.
After a couple of near misses early in the match, the Green and White took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on Stone's second marker of the season. Pallanck kicked away Morgan's strike from inside 10 yards but Stone beat an Eastern Connecticut State defender to the loose ball and touched home the rebound.
Walker easily handled Warriors' senior Andres Mayuri's (West Hartford, Conn.) shot from outside the box in the 56th minute for his lone save of the day, and the visitors had their best scoring chance of the match snuffed out by Babson junior
Lyndon Way (Atlanta, Ga.) in the 60th minute. First-year Christian Mendoza (New Milford, Conn.) forced a turnover deep in the final third and forced White off his line before Way raced back to block his shot.
Morgan sent a header just over the crossbar off a service from senior
Liam Rhatigan (Holderness, N.H.) in the 77th minute before tacking on an insurance tally just minutes later. He shouldered past an Eastern Connecticut State defender to get to Anderson's ball along the left flank and then chipped a 20-yard shot over Pallanck for his third goal of the season with 7:18 remaining.
The Beavers finished with a 14-3 edge in shots and attempted six of the game's seven corner kicks.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Connecticut College at 2:30 p.m., while the Warriors visit Fisher on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
