No. 3 Field Hockey Hosts No. 15 Bates on Wednesday

No. 3 Field Hockey vs. No. 15 Bates

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 11-12 all-time against Bates in a series that dates back to 1987.
• The Beavers have won three consecutive games against the Bobcats, all by two goals, after dropping six in a row from 2013-18, including  four straight by a single goal from 2015-18 and three in a row in OT in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
• The Beavers are 6-5 against the Bobcats all-time at Babson Park, including a 3-1 win in the last meeting in 2021.

 LAST MEETING
• Graduate student Meara Hanyon scored a pair of goals on penalty strokes and seventh-ranked Babson overcame a 1-0 deficit with three first-half goals in a five-minute span on the way to a 4-2 victory over 15th-ranked Bates on September 14, 2022, at Campus Avenue Field in Lewiston, Maine.
• Junior Jessica Evans and Isabelle Fournier '23 also scored for the Beavers, and sophomore Alex Michelotti and graduate student Brianne McGrath registered assists. Junior goalkeeper Bayla Furmanek made six saves to record the win in the Beaver goal.
• Junior Anna Cote and senior Kami Lambert scored goals for the Bobcats, and senior Paige Cote recorded an assist in the setback. Grace Biddle '23 and sophomore Kaili Jacobsen combined to make three saves in the Bobcat goal.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 3 Babson (4-0) posted its fourth straight victory with a big 2-1 verdict over No. 5 Williams on Saturday in Williamstown, Mass. in a battle to Top 10 teams.
• Senior Andrea Marguerite scored a pair of first-half goals to spark the Beavers and the defense made them stand up. McGrath and Evans registered assists in the win, and Furmanek collected a season-high seven saves to post her fourth win in as many outings.
• Hanyon (2-3-7) leads the team in assists and McGrath (3-1-7) and Marguerite (3-0-6) share the team goal-scoring lead. Junior Camille Marsh (2-1-5), graduate student Sinead Walsh (2-1-5) and junior Berit Sharrow (2-0-4) are also multi-goal scorers.
• Furmanek (4-0, 0.75 GAA, .679 sv. pct) has started 27 straight games in goal for the Beavers dating back to last season and owns nine career shutouts.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• No. 15 Bates (3-0) is coming off an impressive victory of its own on Saturday with a 3-1 road win over No. 14 Bowdoin, marking the Bobcats' first win in Brunswick, Maine since 1982.
• Junior Anna Lindeis scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 41st minute, classmate Maria Femia notched a pair of goals, and sophomore Kaili Jacobsen made a career-high eight saves in the win. Both Cotes, Paige and Anna, also collected assists in the victory.
• Paige Cote (4-5-13) leads Division III in assists and ranks sixth in points per game while Femia (5-1-11) ranks ninth nationally in goals and 10th in points per game. Kami Lambert (3-0-6) and Anna Lindeis (3-0-6) are also top offensive threats. Jacobsen (3-0, 1.00 GAA, .818 sv. pct) has started all three games in goal for the Bobcats.
• Bates finished 9-7 a year ago after falling to No. 9 Tufts in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament semifinals.

CONFERENCE HONOR FOR MARGUERITE
• Marguerite earned her second career weekly conference honor on Monday when she was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week.
• The senior forward finished the week with three goals for six points in a 3-0 week. She scored in the second quarter of Thursday's 8-1 win over Roger Williams and then scored twice in the first half in the Beavers' 2-1 triumph at No. 5 Williams on Saturday. 

FRIENDLY CONFINES
• The Green and White have won 25 of their last 29 games on home turf at MacDowell Field.
• The Beavers are 68-16 at home since the start of the 2015 season.

NATIONALLY RANKED OPPONENTS
• Wednesday will be the second of four Babson games this month against nationally ranked opponents, including three of the top six teams in the NFHCA preseason Division III poll.
• The Green and White defeated No. 5 Williams on Saturday and will also travel to top-ranked Middlebury on September 17 and host No. 6 Tufts on September 26.
• The Beavers are also slated to face 12th-ranked MIT on October 21 at MacDowell Field.

BABSON VS. THE NESCAC
• The Bates matchup is the second of five Babson regular season games this season against schools from the NESCAC, following Saturday's encounter at Williams
• The Green and White went 4-2 against the NESCAC each of the past two seasons and are 12-7 against the conference since 2019 with four of the losses off the sticks of top-ranked Middlebury.
• The Beavers will also face No. 1 Middlebury on Sunday and No. 6 Tufts on September 26.

STARTING STRONG
• The Green and White have won their first four games for the third time since starting 9-0 in 2017.
• Babson is 22-7 in the month of September since the start of 2019, with three losses against top-ranked Middlebury.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 39 straight games since the start of the 2021 campaign when scoring the first goal of the game.
• Babson has won its last 37 games over the past two campaigns when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White have won 106 straight games since 2014 when scoring at least three times.
• The Beavers have won 70 of 72 contests since 2018 when holding opponents to less than two goals.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers open NEWMAC play on Saturday against Clark at MacDowell Field before a visit to No. 1 Middlebury on Sunday.
