No. 7 Field Hockey Makes Season Debut at Endicott on Friday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson holds an 11-4 advantage against Endicott in the all-time series that dates back to 1984.
• After winning seven in a row from 2010-2016, the Beavers have captured three of the last four, including a 5-2 verdict last season.
• The Green and White are 3-1 in games played in Beverly, including a 2-1 victory in 2021. The lone Gulls' home win came in 2017 by a 2-0 score.

LAST MEETING
• Senior Andrea Marguerite scored a natural hat trick as No. 10 Babson built a 5-0 lead early in the third quarter and the Beavers went on to a 5-2 victory over Endicott on October 25, 2022 at MacDowell Field.
• Isabelle Fournier '23 and graduate student Brianne McGrath also scored for the Beavers and junior Jessica Evans collected two assists. Kelsey Low '23 also picked up an assist and junior Bayla Furmanek made three saves to record the win in goal.
• Sophomore Tori Swanson and junior Kathleen Reissfelder scored goals for the Gulls and sophomore goalie Brianna Anslow was impressive with 11 saves in the loss.

HEAD COACHES
• Babson is led by 17th-year head coach Julie Ryan, who has achieved a 227-92 record (.712), including a 100-20 mark against NEWMAC opponents. An eight-time Coach of the Year, she has led the program to four conference tournament championships and six NCAA Tournament berths
• Endicott is guided by 17th-year head coach Jodi Cipolla, who has recorded a 209-105 mark (.666) with the Gulls, including 113-29 in conference play. A five-time Coach of the Year, she has led her teams to five conference championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances as well as the 2008 ECAC New England title.

A LOOK BACK
• Babson wrapped up another outstanding campaign in 2022, finishing 19-4 overall, including a 14-game winning streak, and 8-0 in NEWMAC regular season play for the sixth consecutive season to capture the program's seventh straight regular season title.
• The Beavers posted playoff victories over Smith (5-0) and MIT (3-1) to capture the program's second straight and fourth overall conference championship, earning their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth in the last six seasons.
• After a first-round bye, the seventh-ranked Green and White defeated No. 18 Rochester 3-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at MacDowell Field before a 1-0 loss to fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins in their second straight national quarterfinal appearance.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (0-0) returns eight starters and 17 veterans from last year's conference championship squad, including two All-Americans and five All-Region selections.
• Junior back Berit Sharrow, a first-team All-American and the Region I Player of the Year, anchored a back line that posted eight shutouts and finished with a 1.04 goals against average. She also set new career highs offensively with four goals and six assists for 14 points. McGrath earned second team All-American honors after leading the team in scoring with 14 goals and four assists for 32 points. She has accumulated 34 career goals and 20 assists for 88 points.
• Marguerite (11-6-28), Furmanek (19-4, 1.05 GAA, 8 SO) and junior midfielder Camille Marsh (4-1-9) are also strong returning All-Region selections who will be key players for the Green and White.

SCOUTING THE GULLS
• Endicott (0-0) is coming off a 15-5 campaign in 2022, including an 11-game winning streak, and a 5-1 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls downed Western New England in the CCC semifinals but was edged in overtime by the University of New England in the final, 3-2.
• The Gulls had won the three previous conference crowns and five overall, and captured three consecutive NCAA Tournament first-round games from 2018-21.
• Anslow leads the group of returnees for the Gulls after earning second team all-region and first team all-conference honors last season, as well as CCC rookie of the year. She posted a 14-5 record with a 1.23 goals against average and a .776 save percentage.
• Sophomore Maddy Dengler (13-7-33) was second on the team in scoring and earned second team all-conference honors while senior Meghan Lehouiller (1-2-4) was also second team all-conference after anchoring a defense that posted nine shutouts.

SOLID DEPTH
• In addition to the all-region returnees, Babson welcomes back several other key contributors from last year's squad.
• Junior Jessica Evans (6-7-13) finished third on the team in scoring, graduate student Meara Hanyon (3-8-14) led the team in assists and was joined by sophomore Sanne van der Goes as part of the defensive unit that recorded eight shutouts.
• Sophomore Caroline DiGiovanni produced five goals and an assist off the bench and junior Ellie Powers (1-1-3) provided depth at both midfield and defense.

GRADUATE ASSISTANCE
• The Beavers have experienced veterans on this year team with five graduate students, including returnees McGrath and Hanyon.
• Graduate transfers include midfielder Sinead Walsh (Holy Cross), forward Jackie Hill (Colby) and back Daniela Parrado-Nazal (UConn). Walsh was a four-year starter and two-time All-Patriot League performer for the Crusaders and Hill produced seven goals and 17 points as a senior starter for the Mules last season.

SEASON OPENERS
• Babson has won two straight and 13 out of its last 14 season openers dating back to 2008, including last year's 1-0 victory over Kean in Hamden, Conn.
• The Beavers had an 11-game winning streak in season debuts snapped in 2019 with a 3-1 loss to Endicott.

PRESEASON POLL
• The Beavers were picked to defend their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship when the preseason coaches' poll was released last week.
• Babson, which has won 50 straight regular season conference games, received nine out of 10 first-place votes.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers were 18-0 last year and 35-0 over the past two seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• Babson has won its last 33 games over the past two campaigns when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White were 15-1 last season when scoring at least two goals and have won 103 straight games since 2014 when scoring at least three times.
• The Beavers finished 16-1 a year ago when holding opponents to one goal or less and have won 66 of 68 contests since 2018 when keeping opponents to less than two goals.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will travel to New London, Connecticut, next Tuesday for a non-conference game at Connecticut College (6 p.m.) before returning home to host Roger Williams next Thursday, September 7, in the home opener at MacDowell Field at 6 p.m.
