Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate students Ryan Kenney (Hingham, Mass.) and Will Spangenberg (Dover, Mass.) and senior Chi Chi Price (Hingham, Mass.) combined for 12 goals and eight assists and Babson College overcame a two-goal first-quarter deficit and rolled to a 17-10 victory over Trinity College Wednesday evening in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at MacDowell Field.
With the victory, Babson improves its record to 2-1 on the season while Trinity drops to 0-2.
Kenney scored a game-high six goals and added an assist, Spangenberg finished with a career-high eight points on two goals and a career-high six assists, and Price chipped in with four goals and an assist to lead the Beavers. Junior Topher Bower (Chicago, Ill.) tallied two goals and an assist, junior Jacob Tauss (San Marcos, Calif.) and seniors Wills Jordan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and Jack Garrity (Sudbury, Mass.) scored once each, and Spangenberg scooped up a team-high six ground balls.
First-year Will Reading (Southlake, Texas) contributed to the win at the center X, winning 16 of 23 faceoffs, and senior goalie Will Parducci (Manhattan Beach, Calif) made 13 saves in goal in the victory.
Graduate student Harrison Ike (Allentown, Pa.) and junior Peter Cannon (Houston, Texas) led the Bantams with three goals apiece, and sophomore Jon Krikorian (Windham, N.H.) tallied two goals in the loss. Juniors Andrew Bailey (Madison, N.J.) and Tyler DeSimone (St. James, N.Y.) scored one goal each, classmate Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) registered an assist and picked up a team-high six ground balls, and sophomore Jordan Opdahl (Rockville, Md.) made nine saves in goal for the Bantams.
The teams alternated goals in the first half of the first quarter, with Trinity taking leads of 4-2 and 5-3 with six minutes showing on the clock. Kenney scored his second goal with 1:37 remaining to pull the Beavers to within one goal, 5-4, at the end of the first frame.
Spangenberg set up the first three Babson goals of the second quarter, as Bower scored a man-up goal, Jordan tallied his first goal of the season and Price added his second of the game to put the Beavers up, 7-6. After Ike tied the game at 7-all with three minutes remaining, the Green and White scored three times in the final 2:15, one each by Spangenberg, Kenney and Price, to take a 10-7 lead into the break.
Babson outscored the visitors 3-1 in the third quarter, with goals from Tauss, Kenney and Bower, to extend the lead to 13-8. The Beavers pulled away in the fourth quarter as Spangenberg and Price added a pair of goals and Kenney followed a goal by Ike with his final two goals of the night to make it 17-9. Cannon rounded out the scoring for Trinity with a goal in the final minute.
The Green and White had a 52-44 advantage in shots, won the ground ball battle 37-32, and won 16 of the 29 faceoffs.
After three home games to start the season, the Beavers hit the road for the first time this Saturday with a visit to Western New England for a 1 p.m. game. Trinity returns home to host Bates College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• Babson won for just the third time in nine games all-time against the Bantams in a series that dates back to 1980.
• The 17 goals by the Beavers were the most since a 17-11 victory over UMass Boston last April 6, a strong of 11 games.
• Spangenberg has registered at least one point in 11 straight games, dating back to last season in his senior year at Holy Cross.
• Kenney's six goals were a season high and the most in his last dozen games since scoring seven times for Lynchburg in a 25-5 win over Guilford last April 13.
