Anthony Rodriguez (Prairie View, Ill.) and junior
Julian Ivarra (Plano, Texas) both earned all-region honors as the Babson College men's cross country team finished ninth at the NCAA East Region Championship at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers finished ninth out of 40 teams with 279 points, third-lowest in program history. No. 3 MIT came in first with 35 points and secured an automatic bid to next Saturday's Division III Championship, while Tufts (57 points), Bates (97 points), Bowdoin (118 points), and WPI (130 points) rounded out the top five.
Rodriguez came in a career-best 15th place out of 229 runners with a time of 25:09, tied for sixth-fastest in program history, and became the first male in program history to earn all-region accolades in three straight years. Ivarra posted a career-best time of 25:35 to place 27th giving Babson a pair of all-region honorees for the second straight year and second time in program history.
First-year
Ethan Jina (Carlisle, Mass.) finished 52nd in a season-best time of 26:28, lowering his best time by a minute and 17 seconds, and classmate
Jonathan Hanscom (Hadley, Mass.) came across in 87th place in a season-best 27:09, dropping a minute and nine seconds off his previous best. Sophomore
Max Gregoire (Tyngsborough, Mass.) was Babson's fifth finisher, taking 98th place in a time of 27:26, second-best in his career.
Rounding out the Babson contingent were first-year
Almond Nickerson IV (Darien, Conn.) in 105th place in 27:42, lowering his PR by eight seconds, and classmate
Brian Gall (Norwalk, Conn.), who finished 125th in 28:24, his second-best time this fall.
Rodriguez is likely to be selected to the NCAA Division III Championship meet when the at-large selections are announced on Sunday.
