No. 2 Field Hockey to Host NEWMAC Newcomer Salve Regina on Saturday and Saint Joseph’s (Maine) on Sunday

WHAT TO KNOW
• The Beavers will play back-to-back home games against out of state opponent this Saturday and Sunday at MacDowell Field, where they are 7-0 this season.
• The Beavers will host New England Women's Collegiate Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) newcomer Salve Regina on Saturday at 12 p.m. and non-conference foe Saint Joseph's of Maine on Sunday at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Salve Regina

• The Beavers have won all six meetings between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1998.
• All six matches were played between 2000 and 2007.
• The Green and White posted clean sheets in four of the six games.
vs. Saint Joseph's
• The Beavers have won all four all-time matches between the two programs, all of which have come since 2019.
• The two teams squared off in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, with Babson winning 2-0.
• The Green and White posted shutouts in the first three games against the Monks.

LAST MEETING
vs. Salve Regina
• Torry Cullen scored three goals to lead Babson to a 7-0 victory over Salve Regina in the season opener back on September 6, 2003.
• Elise Conley, Gina Giardina, Andrea Tufts, and Karen Kolstad also scored for the Beavers
• It was the first of seven straight wins for Babson to open the season, which ended with an 18-5 record.
vs. Saint Joseph's
Amber Rose '23 and senior Andrea Marguerite both finished with a goal and an assist as No. 9 Babson defeated Saint Joseph's, 4-2, on October 9, 2022 at the SJC Athletics Complex.
• Isabelle Fournier '23 and graduate student Meara Hanyon each had a goal for the Beavers and Claire Nichols '23 chipped in with her first assist of the season. Junior goalkeeper Bayla Furmanek made two saves in the victory.
• Aimee Adams '23 and Megan Quirion '23 both scored for the Monks, who got 12 saves from junior goalkeeper Kassidy Collins.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 2 Babson (11-1, 4-0 NEWMAC) enters the weekend riding a five-game winning streak after pulling away from WPI for a 5-1 victory on Tuesday at MacDowell Field.
• Junior Camille Marsh scored a pair of goals in the win, and juniors Berit Sharrow and Jessica Evans and first-year Ashley Braren also scored for the Beavers. Hanyon and fellow grad student Brianne McGrath recorded assists in the win and Furmanek made one save in 56-plus minutes in goal.
• Marsh (10-3-23) is tied for third in the NEWMAC in goals and ranks third alone in points while McGrath (7-3-17) and Walsh (6-5-17) are also in the top 10 in points. Sophomore Caroline DiGiovanni (7-0-14) is second on the team in goals and Hanyon (3-7-13) is tied for the league lead in assists.
• Furmanek (11-1, 0.75 GAA, .804 sv. pct) leads the NEWMAC in goals against average and shutouts (6) and ranks second in save percentage.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
• Salve Regina (6-3, 2-2 NEWMAC) has won more games this fall than all of last season (5-12) with Tuesday's 4-1 conference win over Wheaton. The Seahawks are in their first season in the NEWMAC after moving over from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) back in July.
• Senior Shannon Kennedy score twice in the win for Salve, and sophomores Julia Decker and Georgia Costello added a goal apiece. Junior Bryn Protheroe made 10 saves in goal, her fourth double-digit save performance in her last six outings.
• Kennedy (10-7-27) and Decker (11-0-22) have combined for 21 of the team's 39 goals this season and both rank in the top eight in Division III in points. Costello (6-6-18) is third in scoring and has the team lead with two game-winning goals.
• Protheroe (6-3, 2.04 GAA, .800 sv. pct) has started all nine games in goal for the Seahawks, posting three shutouts.

SCOUTING THE MONKS
• Saint Joseph's (4-5, 4-2 GNAC) heads into Saturday's GNAC match-up against Elms trying the snap a two-game skid after back-to-back shutout losses to Colby-Sawyer (2-0) on Wednesday and Johnson & Wales (3-0) last Saturday.
• Junior Kassidy Collins made 13 saves in the setback vs. Johnson & Wales and six saves in the loss to Colby-Sawyer. The Monks were outshot 30-3 against JWU and 16-3 by the Chargers.
• Sophomore Maya Waryas (5-1-11) has scored half of the team's goals in nine games. Junior Abbie Jacques (1-2-4) leads the team in assists and first-year Isabella Littler (2-0-4) is second on the team in goals.
• Collins (4-5, 1.93 GAA, .798 sv. pct) has started all nine games in goal for the Monks, recording a pair of shutouts.

A GLANCE AT THE NEWMAC
• Babson and MIT are tied for first place in the NEWMAC with 4-0 conference records and Wellesley and WPI are a game behind at 3-1.
• Salve Regina and Smith are both 2-2 and hold down the middle two spots in the 10-team league.
• With the win over WPI, Babson extended its NEWMAC regular season victory streak to 54 games dating back to 2015.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
• The Green and White are 7-0 this season on home turf and have won 31 of their last 35 games at MacDowell Field.
• The Beavers are 74-16 at home since the start of the 2015 season.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
• Marsh's performance against WPI was her third two-goal outing of the season and the fourth of her career.
• Four different Beavers have scored at least two goals in a game this season for a total of nine times – McGrath (Roger Williams, Clark, Skidmore), Marsh (Connecticut College, Wheaton, WPI), DiGiovanni (Bates, Smith), and Marguerite (Williams).

SCORING MACHINE
• The Green and White have outscored their opponents 56-9 this season and are ranked 10th in Division III in goals per game (4.3) and sixth in scoring margin (+3.9).
• Babson has gotten goals from 15 different players and at least five goals from six players.

BEAVER BITES
• McGrath has moved into the top 10 on Babson's all-time scoring list with 105 career points. She also ranks 11th with 41 goals and tied for 12th with 23 assists.
• Furmanek is now tied for fourth in program history with 14 career shutouts and ranks sixth with 30 wins.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 45-2 since the start of the 2021 campaign when scoring the first goal of the game.
• Babson has won its last 44 games over the past three campaigns when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White have won 112 straight games since 2014 when scoring at least three times.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will be back in action next Saturday, October 14, with a NEWMAC contest at Springfield College at 1 p.m.
