No. 2 Field Hockey Wraps Up Regular Season at Mount Holyoke on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers are 24-15-3 all-time against the Lyons in a series that dates back to 1988.
• Babson has won seven in a row over Mount Holyoke by a combined score of 33-6 after the Lyons had won four straight from 2013-15 by a combined count of 11-3.
• The Green and White have won the last three contests in South Hadley going back to 2017.

LAST MEETING
• Graduate student Brianne McGrath tallied her second career hat trick and Isabelle Fournier '23 added a pair of goals as No. 7 Babson powered past Mount Holyoke, 6-1, on September 17, 2022 at MacDowell Field.
• Sophomore Laney Reed also scored her first collegiate goal in the win, and junior Jessica Evans added two assists for the Beavers, who outshot the Lyons 27-4.
• Junior Sophia Guziewicz scored her second goal of the season for Mount Holyoke. Classmate Rachel Katzenberg had a busy day in goal and matched her career high with 17 saves.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 2 Babson (17-1, 8-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 5-0 shutout over the University of New England on Tuesday in Biddeford, Maine.
• Graduate student Jackie Hill scored three goals for her first career hat trick and Babson's stingy defense didn't concede a shot on goal in the win. Graduate student Meara Hanyon and junior Camille Marsh also scored for the Beavers, Evans collected a pair of assists, and Reed and graduate student Sinead Walsh added one assist each.
• Walsh (14-7-35), Marsh (14-5-33) and McGrath (13-7-33) are all in the top seven in the NEWMAC in goals and points. Sophomore Caroline DiGiovanni (10-0-20) gives the Beavers four double-digit goal scorers and Hanyon (4-9-17) and Evans (6-8-20) are in the top five in the conference in assists.
• Hanyon, junior Berit Sharrow, graduate student Daniela Parrado-Nazal and sophomore Sanne van der Goes anchor a defense that has allowed just 13 goals in 18 games. Junior Bayla Furmanek (0.73 GAA, .780 sv. pct) has started in goal every game over the past two seasons and leads the NEWMAC in goals against average and shutouts (9).

SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Mount Holyoke (8-10, 1-7 NEWMAC) has suffered losses in its last five games, including a 1-0 non-conference setback at Western New England on Tuesday and a 3-2 overtime verdict in its last conference game on Senior Day last Saturday.
• Junior Jayonna Montigny and senior Amanda Thibodeau scored goals for the Lyons against Wheaton and graduate student Laurissa Montigny collected an assist. First-year Linnea Alsted contributed a defensive save and Katzenberg (6 saves) and senior Leah Manning split time in goal in the loss.
• Jayonna (10-3-23) and Laurissa (10-3-23) Montigny share the team scoring lead, and Jayonna has a team-high four game-winning goals. Sophomore Anna Induni (3-4-10) leads the team in assists and Alsted has collected six defensive saves.
• Katzenberg (2.26 GAA, .768 sv. pct.) has started the bulk of the games for the Lyons and ranks fourth in the conference with 119 saves.

A PEEK AT THE NEWMAC
• The Beavers (8-0) clinched their eighth consecutive regular season crown and MIT (7-1) has wrapped up second place and both earn byes into next Thursday's tournament semifinals.
• WPI (6-2) will be the third seed and will host a quarterfinal on Tuesday while Salve Regina (4-4), Wellesley (4-4), Smith (4-4) and Springfield (3-5) are battling for the final three playoff spots.
• The Green and White are riding a NEWMAC regular season victory streak of 58 games dating back to a 1-0 loss to Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.

BUSY BEAVERS
• Walsh has registered at least one point in six straight games, totaling eight goals and two assists for 18 points in that span.
• McGrath has tallied at least two points in five or her last six outings, collecting six goals and four assists for 16 points in the that stretch.

BEAVER BITES
• Furmanek's nine shutouts are tied for second in Babson single-season history with Cassidy Riley (2021), three shy of the program record held by Deirdre Barry (12 in 2016).
• Walsh (35), McGrath (33) and Marsh (33) give Babson three players with 30 or more points for the first time since 2010 and just the third time in program history; the Beavers first accomplished it in 2005.
• Babson's 89 goals this season is approaching the program's single-season record of 100 goals, set back in 2021.The Green and White averaged 4.35 goals per game in 2021 and this year's squad is averaging 4.94 per game.

CALENDAR SUCCESS
• Babson has won 45 games in a row in the month of October dating back to a 2-1 loss at Montclair State on October 28, 2017.
• The Beavers are 23-1 on Saturdays over the past three seasons.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 7-1 in road games this season and 22-3 away from home since the start of the 2021 season.
• The Beavers have lost just once in their last 53 outings when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won 50 games in a row when leading at halftime, dating back to 2021, and is 76-3 since 2018 when taking a lead into the second half.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers have clinched the top seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday at MacDowell Field.
