No. 13 Men's Soccer Visits Coast Guard for Regular Season Finale on Saturday

No. 13 Men's Soccer at Coast Guard

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 42-9-7 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 1968.
• The Beavers have won four straight matches against the Bears going back to 2018.
• The Green and White have captured eight of nine victories in games played in New London over the past two decades, with the only Bears' win coming in 2017.

LAST MEETING
• No. 15 Babson got goals from three different players and Mitchell Collins '23 finished with a pair of assists in a 3-0 win over No. 25 Coast Guard on October 8, 2022, at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
RJ Parrilla '23, Shamar Rainford '23 and senior Louis Gazo each scored a goal for the Beavers. Senior Ryan Kim chipped in with an assist and junior Walker White made one save to record his third shutout of the year.
• Senior goalkeeper Josh Hudson made three saves in a losing effort for the Bears.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (10-3-5, 5-0-2 NEWMAC) brings a nine-game unbeaten streak (5-0-4) into Saturday's game. The Beavers have alternated wins and ties over the last eight games, including Wednesday's 0-0 draw vs. Clark in Worcester.
• First-year Alexander Yablonovskiy scored a pair of goals in last Saturday's 2-0 win over MIT, and graduate student Ryan Grund had the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Wheaton.
• Graduate students Justin Stone (4-1-9) and Sam Morgan (3-3-9) have combined for four game-winning goals and senior Liam Rhatigan (4-0-8) has notched three of his markers in the second half for the Beavers, who have outscored their opponents, 22-9.
• White (0.50 GAA, .899 sv. pct., 11 SO) has started 39 straight games going back to last season with 18 clean sheets. He leads Division III this fall in shutouts and ranks ninth in save percentage and 13th in goals against average.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
• Coast Guard (3-5-7, 2-2-3 NEWMAC) is looking to finish the season on a positive note after posting a 1-0 defeat at Emerson on Wednesday.
• First-year Andres Villasana scored the game-winner for the Bears, with an assist from senior Andrew Ferderer. Senior Wolfgang Pfleghar made three saves in goal to record his fourth shutout.
• Senior Charles Fish (3-3-9) leads a balanced offensive attack for Coast Guard, as Villasana (4-0-8) has two game-winners and sophomore Aki Freeman (3-2-8) and first-year Cole Miller (3-2-8) also have eight points each. 
• Pfleghar (0.88 GAA, .690 sv. pct.) has started 11 of the Bears' 15 games while senior Josh Hudson (1.78 GAA, .750 sv. pct.) was between the pipes in the other four.

PLAYOFF RACE
• WPI (6-1-1) heads into the weekend with 19 points after completing its conference schedule while Babson (5-0-2) is second with 17 points and one game remaining. They will be the top two seeds in the tournament and earn byes into the semifinals on Thursday.
• Wheaton (4-1-2, 14 pts) and MIT (4-2-1, 13 pts) will be the 3-4 seeds and will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday. Coast Guard (2-2-3, 9 pts) has clinched a quarterfinal berth, and Springfield (1-3-3, 6 pts) and Clark (1-4-2, 5 pts) are battling for the final playoff spot.

STREAKING BEAVERS
• Babson is 17-0-2 in its last 19 games against NEWMAC foes, including conference tournament matches.
• The Beavers are riding a 20-game unbeaten streak in conference road matches (16-0-4) that dates back to the beginning of the 2018 campaign.

SECOND-HALF SURGE
• The Beavers have scored 19 of their 22 goals after halftime this fall, outscoring their opponents 19-6 over the final 45 minutes of their 18 matches. 
• Nine of the 19 markers have come after the 70th minute and seven have been scored with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation. 

CLEAN SHEETS IN THE BOOKS
• With 11 clean sheets, White is the 12th Babson keeper to record double-digit shutouts in a season and first since 2006 (Chris Necklas '07).
• The Beavers' program record is 15 by current assistant coach Steve Webber '92 back in 1991.

BEAVER BITES
• Seventy-two percent (13 of 18) of Babson's games this season have been decided by a single goal or finished in a draw.
• The Green and White is 4-0-4 this month and 15-2-7 in the month of October since 2021. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are unbeaten in their last 36 matches (34-0-2) when scoring first. 
• Over the last three seasons, Babson is 17-0 when leading at halftime.
• The Beavers are 10-1-4 on the year when conceding one goal or fewer.

UP NEXT
• Babson has clinched a top-two seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
