No. 7 Field Hockey Cruises Past Connecticut College, 3-1

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) scored twice and had a hand in all three goals to help seventh-ranked Babson College defeat visiting Connecticut College, 3-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at MacDowell Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 while Connecticut College starts the year at 0-1.

DiGiovanni scored twice and recorded one assist, sophomore Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) contributed a goal and an assist and senior Brianne McGrath (Newmarket, Ontario) recorded her first point of the season with a helper for the Beavers. Sophomore goalkeeper Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) made one save to earn her second win in as many starts.

First-year Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) scored her first career goal and sophomore Sophie Moniz (Alexandria, Va.) finished with six saves in her collegiate debut for the Camels.

Evans opened the scoring just under 11 minutes into the match when she got her stick on a centering pass from DiGiovanni and chipped it past Moniz for her second goal of the year to put the Green and White in front 1-0. Babson doubled its lead two minutes later when McGrath gained possession following a Connecticut College turnover and gained the circle before setting up DiGiovanni's first career goal from point-blank range.

DiGiovanni extended the margin to 3-0 with 4:04 to go in the second quarter, blasting a one-timer inside the left post off a feed from Evans.

The Camels broke up the shutout bid with 17 seconds left in regulation as McGann lifted a shot into the upper left corner to make it 3-1.

The Beavers outshot Connecticut College 19-2 and attempted 10 of the 11 penalty corners in the match.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts No. 14 Williams at 12:30 p.m., while Connecticut College travels to Tufts at 12 p.m.
