WHAT TO KNOW
• Babson is seeded third and will travel to second-seeded Springfield for its opening game of the five-team, double-elimination NEWMAC Tournament.
• A victory would see the Beavers play at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while a loss to the Pride would put them in a 9:30 a.m. elimination game. Both contests would be played at Wheaton.

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Springfield: the Beavers are 38-22 all-time against Springfield and swept the Pride in a doubleheader in Babson Park to begin league play back on April 2. Babson is 6-1 all-time versus Springfield in NEWMAC Tournament action, which includes a 2-0 sweep in last year's best-of-3 semifinal series.
vs. Wheaton: Babson is 32-51 all-time against the Lyons and dropped all three games of last weekend's series to conclude the regular season. The Beavers are 11-12 versus Wheaton in NEWMAC Tournament play and have met 13 times in the postseason since 2014.
vs. MIT: Babson is 57-39-1 all-time against the Engineers and won the final two games of a three-game series on April 22-23. The Beavers are 12-8 versus MIT in the NEWMAC Tournament and have won six of their last eight meetings between the teams going back to the 2017 postseason.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Third-seeded Babson (23-13) dropped its final three games of the regular season while being held to just three runs.
• Senior Thomas Lapham is batting .333 with five extra-base hits, 18 RBI, 25 walks and 39 runs scored, classmate Josh Yellen is hitting .333 with eight extra-base hits, 28 RBI and 28 runs scored, and first-year Walter Sadowsky enters the tournament with a .321 average, two doubles, two homers and 13 runs batted in.
• Junior Anthony St. John (4-1, 3.75 ERA) has recorded 41 strikeouts and just six walks in 57.2 innings, classmate Tim Noone (6-1, 3.00 ERA) has recorded a team-high 50 strikeouts in 48.0 innings, and sophomore Tristen Spalter (5-3, 2.83 ERA) has issued just one walk over his last 37.2 innings of work.
• Junior Stephen McLendon has made a team-high 17 appearances out of the bullpen going 2-2 with five saves, a 1.46 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
• Second-seeded Springfield (19-18) won five of its last seven games to finish atop of the league's west division.
• Noah Bleakley is batting .364 with 22 extra-base hits and leads the conference with 38 RBI and 43 runs scored, Ryan Sorgi is hitting .360 with 14 extra-base hits and 31 runs batted, and Cadin Maynard boasts a .359 average to go along with eight doubles, three homers, 27 RBI and 32 runs scored on the year.
• Blake Roberge (3-2, 4.98 ERA) has two complete games and 40 strikeouts over 47.0 innings of work, Michael White is 1-1 with an 8.56 ERA in eight starts and Bleakley has gone 2-0 with five saves and 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings over 11 appearances out of the bullpen.
SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Wheaton (27-10) won its final 10 NEWMAC regular season games and enters the tournament riding a 14-game winning streak.
• Jake Studley is batting .388 with 16 doubles, eight home runs, 34 RBI and 41 runs scored, AJ Guindon is hitting .338 with 14 extra-base hits, 26 RBI and 31 runs scored, and Zach DeMattio enters the weekend with a .280 average to go along with 12 doubles, seven homers, 32 RBI and a league-high 33 walks.
• Stephen Quigley (6-2, 1.94 ERA), Gavin Reily (5-2, 2.29 ERA) and Griffin Young (5-1, 2.57 ERA) have combined for 148 strikeouts and just 24 walks in 151.0 innings of work, while Dom Cunha has nine saves and 24 strikeouts in 17.2 innings out of the bullpen.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• Fifth-seeded MIT (16-2-1) hit three home runs and pounded out 21 hits in Thursday's 16-1 NEWMAC Tournament opening round win over fourth-seeded Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon.
• Kyle Sonandres is batting .363 with nine doubles, six home runs and 24 runs batted in, Teddy Schoenfeld is hitting .351 with 21 extra-base hits, 30 RBI and 33 runs scored, and Michael Finch has added six doubles, four homers and 24 RBI to go along with a .321 average at the plate.
• Graham Cartwright, who went 7.1 innings at Coast Guard, is 6-2 with a 3.71 ERA and 52 strikeouts innings, while Saketh Gabita (2-0, 4.28 ERA) and Brian Rapanan (1-1, 4.85 ERA) are the only other pitchers on the squad to throw more than 27 innings this spring.
WINNING FORMULA
• The Beavers rank second in Division III in walks allowed per nine innings (2.08), are fifth nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.67) and rank 17th in the country in WHIP (1.28).
• The Green and White is also 36th in Division III with a .968 fielding percentage and its 4.20 team ERA ranks 41st.
TOURNAMENT TESTED
• In nine career NEWMAC Tournament games, Lapham is batting .457 (16-for-35) with four doubles, one home run, 11 RBI and four runs scored.
• Yellen and senior Jack Pirkl combined to hit .383 (13-for-34) with four extra-base hits and seven runs batted in over five conference tournament games in 2021, while junior Michael Cook went 6-for-19 at the plate (.316) with three doubles and three RBI in last year's conference playoffs.
PREPARED FOR THE POSTSEASON
• Babson has won at least three games in the NEWMAC playoffs in five consecutive seasons going back to 2016.
• In addition to capturing the 2017 and 2018 tournament titles, the Beavers reached the NEWMAC Championship series in 2016 and 2021 and won three straight elimination games in 2019 to come within a game of winning its third straight crown.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 19-5 when scoring the first run of the game this season and 14-1 when putting up at least one run in the first inning.
• Babson is 11-0 when giving up two runs or fewer this spring.
• The Green and White is 16-1 when finishing with more hits than its opponents and 17-4 when recording 10 or more hits.
