SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 14-22 all-time against UMass Dartmouth in a series that dates back to 1976.
• The Beavers had a two-game winning streak in the series snapped back in 2019 but have won eight of their last 12 games against the Corsairs.
LAST MEETING
• Patrick Vartanian drove in the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth inning to lift UMass Dartmouth to a 7-5 win over the Beavers on April 24, 2019, in Babson Park.
• Brian McHale '19 and Edward Lehr '19 both had two hits and Connor Gill '19 walked twice and scored a pair of runs for the Beavers, who scored four times despite recording just two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to erase a 5-1 deficit.
• Vartanian went 3-for-5, Mike Knell hit a two-run homer and JR DiSarcina singled and drove in two runs for the Corsairs, who built a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (11-6) snapped a two-game skid by sweeping Springfield 8-1 and 14-0 to open NEWMAC play on Saturday.
• Junior Anthony St. John gave up one run over 8.1 innings in the opener and classmate Tim Noone tossed six shutout innings as seven of the Beavers' 15 hits went for extra bases in game two.
• Senior Sean Burychka is batting .383 with 10 extra-base hits and 17 runs batted in, classmate Thomas Lapham is hitting .369 and leads the team with eight stolen bases, 11 walks and 20 RBI and fellow senior Josh Yellen boasts a .343 average to go along with a home run, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored.
• St. John (2-0, 3.14 ERA), Noone (3-1, 4.84) and sophomore Tristen Spalter (2-1, 4.15) have combined to go 7-2 with a 3.97 ERA over 14 starts, while junior Stephen McLendon is 1-1 with four saves and a 1.84 ERA in 11 relief appearances.
SCOUTING THE CORSAIRS
• UMass Dartmouth (8-8) has been idle since suffering a 3-1 loss to Wheaton on March 27.
• Matt Tempone went 2-for-4 and hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth for the Corsairs, who stranded nine runners on base against the Lyons.
• Jared Neikam is batting .404 with six doubles and five runs batted in, DJ Perron is hitting .360 with 11 extra-base hits and 11 RBI, and Andrew Bryant checks in at .333 with three doubles, three homers and 13 runs batted in.
• Ryan Qualey (2-0, 2.25 ERA) has recorded 35 strikeouts in 28.0 innings and is holding opponents to a .222 average, while Mike Sollitto is 2-1 with one save in eight relief appearances this spring.
CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALL
• The Beavers homered twice in both games of Saturday's twin bill against Springfield as Burychka and Lapham went deep in the opener, while Yellen and junior Jackson Kelly hit round trippers in the nightcap.
• Saturday marked the first time Babson homered in both games of a doubleheader since April 27, 2019, in a sweep over Emerson.
• The Green and White also hit multiple homers in consecutive games for the first time since 2018 when it homered three times in a 19-2 win over Coast Guard on March 31 and then hit a pair of dingers in a 26-1 triumph over WPI on April 5.
SETTLING IN UP NORTH
• In eight games since returning from Florida going back to March 21, Babson is 6-2 and is batting .315 as a team to go along with a 2.41 earned run average.
• The Beavers have recorded 10 or more hits in each of their six wins and are averaging 7.75 runs per game. Lapham is 14-for-30 (.467) with six multi-hit games, while Burychka is batting .433 (13-for-30) with five doubles, two triples, a home run and 12 RBI over the last two weeks.
• On the mound, Noone has recorded 18 straight scoreless innings over three starts and the trio of McLendon, senior William Cournan and junior Tim Person have combined to give up just one run on six hits while striking out 26 in 14.0 innings of work.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 10-1 this season when they give up two extra-base hits or fewer.
• Babson is 9-3 when recording 10 or more hits and 7-1 when it finishes with more hits than its opponents.
