Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Mass.—Juniors Anthony St. John (Hopewell, N.J.) recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in game one, classmate Tim Noone (Needham, Mass.) tossed six shutout innings in the nightcap and Babson College homered twice in each game on its way to sweeping visiting Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball action on Saturday at Govoni Field.
The Beavers took the opener 8-1 before routing the Pride 14-0 in game two. Babson improves to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in league play with the win, while Springfield slips to 7-13 overall and starts NEWMAC play at 0-2.
Game 1: Babson 8, Springfield 1
Senior Thomas Lapham (Charlestown, Mass.) hit a three-run homer, senior Sean Burychka (Mount Laurel, N.J.) hit a solo blast and sophomore Francis Kiely (Falmouth, Mass.) doubled and drove in two runs to lead the Beavers' offense. Senior Josh Yellen (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) singled twice and St. John worked into the ninth inning scattering eight hits and allowing just one earned run to improve to 2-0 with the win.
The Green and White led 2-0 after three thanks to an RBI double by sophomore Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly by Kiely and broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Burychka hit a lined shot over the wall in right center to lead off the inning, Lapham followed with a three-run blast to right and Kiely's double to left center brought home Yellen to make it 7-0.
The Pride scored its lone run of the game in the eighth as junior Joe Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.) tripled down the right field line and came on graduate student Jack Simonetty's (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) single up the middle one batter later. Junior Blake Roberge (Warwick, R.I.) suffered the loss to drop to 1-2 on the year after giving up seven runs, six of them earned, on seven hits while striking out five in 3.2 innings.
Game 2: Babson 14, Springfield 0
Burychka went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in, junior Jackson Kelly (Wenonah, N.J.) homered as part of a three-hit day and drove in three runs, and sophomore Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.) came off the bench to finish 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Babson's 15-hit attack. Yellen homered, scored three times and drove in two runs, while Lapham reached base and scored three times in the win.
Noone (3-1) won his third consecutive start giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6.0 innings. Senior William Cournan (Pembroke, Mass.) and juniors Tim Person (Hudson, Mass.) and Stephen McLendon (Nashua, N.H.) fanned seven while allowing just one hit over the final three innings to close out the victory.
Burychka plated Lapham with a double and junior Michael Cook (Whitman, Mass.) drove in Yellen with a sacrifice fly to give the Green and White a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Burychka plated two more runs with another double in the third and then scored on Kelly's single to center to stretch the margin to 5-0.
Julian produced an RBI single in the fourth, scored following his one-out single in the sixth and capped a two-run seventh inning with a two-out double to left center to make it 11-0. Yellen led off the eighth with a homer to right center and Kelly hit a two-run blast, the first of his career, to center late in the frame for the final margin.
Sophomore Matthew Robinson (Fairfield, Conn.), one of four pitchers used by Springfield, shouldered the loss to drop to 1-2 on the year after giving up four runs over the first two innings.
Babson returns to action on Monday when it hosts UMass Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m., while Springfield takes on MIT on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

• The Beavers are 38-22 all-time against Springfield and have won the last 16 games in the series going back to 2014.
• Babson is 48-7 at Govoni Field dating back to April 22, 2016.
