No. 9/8 Tufts Pulls Away from Men's Lacrosse, 16-9

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Camden Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) led all players with six goals to help No. 9 USILA/No. 8 Inside Lacrosse Tufts University defeat Babson College, 16-9, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday night at MacDowell Field.

With the loss, Babson slips to 6-7 on the year, while Tufts improves to 11-2 with its fifth consecutive win.

Senior Peter Chisholm (Westford, Mass.) finished with two goals and three assists for a season-high five points, while junior Matt Stucchi (Rexford, N.Y.) and sophomore Jacob Tauss (San Marcos, Calif.) both scored twice to lead the Beavers. Sophomore Grey Sunderland (Bellevue, Wash.) won 16-of-28 face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls, junior Hayden Bean (Winchester, Mass.) recorded a season-high five caused turnovers and senior Mac Mowat (Bellevue, Wash.) matched his season high with 16 saves in the loss.

Junior Tommy Swank (Madison, Conn.) registered four goals and one assist for five points, classmate Jack Boyden (Toronto, Ontario) contributed two goals and two assists and senior Mac Bredahl (Chatham, N.J.) chipped in with two goals and one assist to pace the Jumbos. Junior Kyle Adelmann (San Mateo, Calif.) recorded six ground balls and four caused turnovers, while sophomore Conner Garzone (Malverne, N.Y.) made 13 saves on the night.

Sophomore Connor Karsh (Glenview, Ill.) gave the Green and White the lead just over a minute into the contest before Tufts responded with an extended six-goal run that included three tallies by Kelleher for a 6-1 advantage with 8:19 to go in the second quarter. Junior Chi Chi Price (Hingham, Mass.) finished off a pass by Chisholm to end the run at the 6:45 mark and Tauss followed up a goal by Swank to cut the Babson deficit to 7-3 late in the second quarter.

Chisholm set up goals by Stucchi and Tauss just 31 seconds apart to help the Beavers get as close as 7-5 than a minute into the third quarter only to see the Jumbos respond with three straight markers to end the stanza. Swank and Boyden scored less than two minutes apart to push the margin back to 9-5 with 9:44 left in the period and Kelleher notched his fourth goal of the night at the 5:18 mark to make it 10-5.

Babson closed to within four on Stucchi's tally 29 seconds into the fourth but would get no closer as Bredahl, Swank and Kelleher each scored to stretch the margin back to 13-6 with 10:51 remaining in the contest. Chisholm contributed a pair of fourth-quarter goals, the last of which made it 14-8 with 5:36 left.

The Beavers won 9-of-12 face-offs over the first two quarters but committed 17 turnovers while getting outshot 30-17 in the opening 30 minutes. The Green and White was successful on 26-of-30 clearing opportunities and went 2-for-3 on man-up chances.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Babson travels to Wheaton at 4 p.m., while Tufts visits Hamilton at 12 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 4-13 all-time against Tufts although the programs have met just twice since 2013.
• Babson held the Jumbos to a season-low 47 shots in Tuesday's loss.
• Stucchi extended his points streak to 13 games and now has seven multi-point outings on the year, while Karsh has at least one goal in five consecutive games.
• Five of the Beavers' seven losses this spring have come to nationally-ranked opponents.
