No. 4/8 Men's Lacrosse Welcomes MIT for NEWMAC Tournament Final on Saturday Afternoon at MacDowell Field

WHAT TO KNOW
• Top-seeded Babson will be seeking its fourth straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship and fifth in six years, hosting third-seeded MIT in this year's title game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at MacDowell Field.

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 35-12 all-time against MIT in a series that dates back to 1978.
• The Beavers have won 16 of the last 20 games between the teams, although 13 of the last 17 contests between the two sides have been decided by four goals or fewer.
• The Green and White have won 15 in a row over MIT at MacDowell Field since the Engineers defeated Babson 9-8 in an ECAC Tournament first round game in 2001.

POSTSEASON HISTORY
• Babson is 5-1 all-time against MIT in the conference playoffs, including 1-0 in the Pilgrim League semifinals in 2001 and 4-1 in the NEWMAC since 2014.
• The Beavers are 3-1 against the Engineers in the NEWMAC semifinals, winning in 2014, 2016, and 2025 and losing in 2022, and captured the only meeting between the two sides in the final, 15-14 in overtime in 2023.

LAST GAME VS. MIT
• Graduate student Joey Allen (2g, 3a) and junior Camden Matthews (3g) combined for five goals and three assists, sophomore Andrew Almquist made 14 saves and No. 5/9 Babson scored six unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters to defeat MIT, 12-8, and secure the NEWMAC regular season title last Saturday in Cambridge.
• Senior Jack Feeks tallied two goals and an assist, classmate Bennett Smith and junior Seamus Rooney chipped in with a goal and an assist each, and senior Tyee Ambrosh had two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Almquist added four ground balls to his 12th double-digit save performance this season.
• The Engineers had a balanced scoring attack as seniors Oscar Lindenthal and Bryce Metalios each scored two goals, senior Zach Bleil had a goal and two assists, and sophomore Riley Pierce produced four assists. First-years Kaden Fenno and Mason Prettyman combined to win 13 of 24 face-offs, and senior Collin Lung made 13 saves in goal in the setback.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (15-2, 7-0 NEWMAC), ranked fourth in Division III by the USILA and eighth by USA Lacrosse Magazine, earn a spot in its fourth straight conference final with a 19-4 thrashing of fifth-seeded Coast Guard in semifinal match-up Thursday evening at MacDowell Field.
• Allen scored three times, Smith (1g, 3a) led all players with four points and junior Ryan St. Onge caused four of Coast Guard's 33 turnovers. Matthews and Rooney both finished with two goals and one assist, and junior Rowan Mondello scored twice for the Beavers. Sophomore Beck Trafton won 7-of-12 face-offs, junior Bruno Batty led all players with six ground balls and Almquist had to make just four saves in goal for the win.
• Allen (37-21-58) is fourth in the NEWMAC in goals and points and eighth in assists, Smith (23-28-51) is third in the league in assists and eighth in points, and senior Braden Reilly (21-23-44), Matthews (28-11-39), Rooney (24-8-32) and graduate student Patrick McAleavey (22-3-25) give the Beavers six players with at least 20 goals and 25 points. Grad student Beau Burns has won 74.4 percent of his face-offs (166-223) and leads the team with 123 ground balls and Trafton (.472) has won 67-of-142 face-offs.
• Ambrosh has a team-high 17 caused turnovers and graduate student Mason Dorr (16 CTs, 36 GBs), St. Onge (14 CTs, 22 GBs), junior Ellis McDonald (10 CTs, 13 GBs) and senior Sam Erjavac (5 CTs, 11 GBs) anchor a Beaver defense that leads the NEWMAC conceding 8.0 goals per game. Almquist (8.24 GAA,.617 sv. pct., 214 svs) leads the NEWMAC in GAA, save percentage and total saves.
• The Engineers had a balanced scoring attack as seniors Oscar Lindenthal and Bryce Metalios each scored two goals, senior Zach Bleil had a goal and two assists, and sophomore Riley Pierce produced four assists. SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• MIT (9-7, 5-2 NEWMAC) earned its berth in the final with a 13-8 victory at second-seeded Springfield Thursday evening in a semifinal game in Springfield, Mass.
• Pierce (5g) and Metalios (4g, 1a) combined for nine goals, Campagna contributed four assists and Bleil chipped in with a goal and two assists for the Engineers, who outscored Springfield 11-1 over the course of 45 minutes of action from late in the first quarter to late in the fourth. Fenno (7-of-13) and Prettyman (6-of-11) controlled the face-offs, sophomore Alexander Shen (3 CT, 3 GB) and first-year Daniel Patterson (2 CT, 3 GB) led the defense, and Lung made 13 saves in the victory.
• Campagna (25-46-71) leads the NEWMAC in assists, Pierce (49-21-70) tops the league in goals and they are both in the top three in points. Metalios (33-5-38), junior Hayden Calabretta (21-14-35) and Bleil (18-14-32) are all solid offensive contributors, while Fenno (164-273, .601, 91 GBs) and Prettyman (94-167, .563, 45 GBs) are among the league leaders in face-offs.
• Patterson and senior Haarmann both have 13 caused turnovers and combined for 55 ground balls to lead the defense. Lung (10.96 GAA, .535 sv. pct, 159 svs) has started every game in goal for the Engineers over the past two seasons.

CONFERENCE TOURNEY HISTORY
• Babson is making its 12th appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals since 1999, going 4-7 overall, including 0-7 from 1999-2016 and 4-0 since 2021.
• The Green and White have captured four conference championships in program history -- 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
• Two of Babson's championship game victories were by at least eight goals (15-7 over Coast Guard in 2021 and 19-8 over Springfield in 2024) and two were by just one or two goals (15-14 over MIT in overtime in 2023 and 12-10 over Springfield in 2025).

TOURNAMENT TESTED
• Smith has recorded four goals and 13 assists in seven NEWMAC Tournament games in his career and junior Jake Sisk tallied five goals and five assists in three conference tournament games while to earning 2025 Most Outstanding Player honors.
• Matthews has six goals and two assists in five career NEWMAC post-season games, and Rooney has four goals and two assists in three conference tourney outings.

BABSON VS. THE NEWMAC
• The Beavers are 31-2 against conference opponents dating back to the beginning of the 2023 season.
• The Green and White outscored the NEWMAC foes 118-41 in the regular season this spring.

MACDOWELL MENACES
• The Beavers bring a 7-2 home record into Thursday's game with wins in 17 of their last 20 home games dating back to last season.
• The Green and White have won 26 of their last 29 home games going back to the start of the 2024 campaign.
• Babson has outscored its opponents at home this season, 140-62.

BEAVERS EARN WEEKLY RECOGNITION
• Weekly honors continue to roll in for the Beavers as Allen was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week and earned a spot on the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Team of the Week on Monday.
• Allen produced two goals and three assists for five points as Babson defeated MIT, 12-8, in Saturday's regular season finale.
• Allen received the NEWMAC honor for the fourth time this season and was recognized by the NEILA for the third time.

WALL BETWEEN THE PIPES
• Almquist has been outstanding in the crease for the Beavers in his first year as the starter, posting double-digit saves in 12 of his 17 games.
• The Babson sophomore is ranked seventh in Division III in save percentage (.617) and 19th in goals against average (8.68).
• Almquist owns the single-season program record with 15 wins this season in goal, and his 214 saves is tied with Dave Frascogna (2005) for sixth on the single-season saves list.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Smith (75-103-178) became the third player in program history to record 100 assists last Saturday and is in sixth place on the Babson career scoring list with 178 points.
• Rooney has moved up to 13th on the program's career goal scoring list with 90 goals, and is also tied for 15th with Niall Dillon (2016-19) on the career points list with 137.
• Burns has produced 166 face-off wins this year, which ranks seventh on the Babson single-season face-off wins list, and his 123 ground balls are third-most in a season in program history.
• Tyee Ambrosh has moved into 17th place all-time with 38 caused turnovers.

BEAVER BITES
• Smith has multiple points in 15 of 17 games this season, and he is the only Beaver who has points in all 16 games.
• Allen has at least three points in nine of his last 10 games and at least one point in 15 of his 16 appearances.
• Rooney brings a 33-game point streak into the game dating back to the start of last season.
• Matthews has three points in six of his last seven games and 11 of his 16 outings. McAleavey has points in 16 of his 17 games this spring.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 29 in a row since the start of last year when scoring at least 10 goals.
• The Beavers are 12-1 this season and 23-3 going back to last spring when holding a lead at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2024 campaign, Babson is 37-4 when winning at least 50 percent of its face-offs. 
• Going back to 2023, the Beavers are 9-3 in the month of May.

• The winner of Saturday's final will received the NEWMAC automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship tournament, and will learn its first-round opponent and location on the NCAA men's lacrosse selection show on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
