SERIES HISTORY
• Babson and Emerson will meet for just the eighth time on Saturday in a series that dates back to 2014.
• The Beavers have won each of the seven previous meetings and have outscored the Lions 110-18.
LAST MEETING
• Senior Peter Chisholm scored a career-high six goals as Babson rolled to a 21-5 win over visiting Emerson in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on April 17, 2021 at MacDowell Field.
• Junior Chi Chi Price had four goals, while Ethan Carpenter '21 and Mason O'Hanlon '21 both scored twice for the Beavers. Senior Ryan Donovan finished with a goal and two assists and sophomore Grey Sunderland won 19-of-22 face-offs and led all players with nine ground balls in the win. Senior Mac Mowat started and made two first-quarter saves as four Babson goalies combined to stop nine shots on the day.
• Austin Franklin '21G had two goals for the Lions, who got 15 saves from senior Malcolm McGrath. Classmate Lex Torrington scooped up six ground balls and added one caused turnover in the loss.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (5-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) is looking to get back on the winning track after losses to nationally-ranked Williams and Middlebury last weekend.
• Seven different players scored goals in Babson's 16-7 loss last Saturday at No. 18/15 Williams, while six different players scored in Sunday's 15-7 setback to No. 16/19 Middlebury at MacDowell Field.
• Junior Kyle Sanborn led all players against Williams with six ground balls and senior Drew Thomas grabbed five ground balls against Middlebury. Senior Mac Mowat matched his season high with 16 saves against the Panthers.
• Price (21-8-29), sophomore Topher Bower (13-10-23), graduate student Lee Sipes (14-6-20), and junior Matt Stucchi (13-6-19) lead the team in scoring. Sunderland has won 120-of-223 face-offs and leads the team with 62 ground balls. Thomas (20 caused turnovers, 24 GB), Sanborn (11 CT, 33 GB) and sophomore Brendan Maher (13 CT, 20 GB) are the top long-pole defenders. Mowat (.541 sv. pct., 10.50 GAA) has started 10 of Babson's 11 games in goal.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
• Emerson (11-3, 1-2 NEWMAC) is coming off an 18-6 NEWMAC loss at home to Springfield last Saturday. The Lions have dropped two of their last three following a six-game winning streak.
• Senior Skyler Celotto led the Lions with two goals in the loss to Springfield, while junior Nicholas Fulgione tallied a goal and three assists. Celotto also added seven ground balls and junior Jack O'Rourke had a goal and two caused turnovers.
• Sophomore Birk Swan (29-40-69) leads the NEWMAC in assists and ranks second in points, while Celotto (34-22-56), Fulgione (35-19-54) and graduate student Austin Franklin (34-8-42) are also among the conference scoring leaders.
• Junior James Toomy is 112-of-176 on face-offs and first-year Tyler King is 98-of-159, while junior Josh DeMattos has 29 caused turnovers. Senior Macolm McGrath (.588 sv. pct., 9.55 GAA) lead the NEWMAC with 163 saves and ranks in the top three in save percentage and goals against average.
A LOOK AT THE NEWMAC
• MIT (3-0) and Coast Guard (3-0) sit atop the standings with Springfield (3-1) right behind.
• Babson (1-2), Emerson (1-2) and Clark (1-3) are battling for fourth place while Wheaton (0-4) is looking for its first win.
BEAVER BITES
• Stucchi has scored at least one point in all 11 games this spring and has five multi-point outings. Price has at least one point in nine of his last 10 games with eight multi-point performances.
• Babson has seen 15 different players score at least two goals this season, and 21 different players score at least once.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 5-0 this spring when leading after three quarters and have won 11 in a row going back to the start of last season.
• The Green and White are 4-1 this spring when holding the opponents to eight goals or fewer, and 23-3 since the start of the 2018 campaign.
