Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.— Junior Andrea Marguerite (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored a natural hat trick as No. 10 Babson College built a 5-0 lead early in the third quarter and the Beavers went on to a 5-2 victory over Endicott College Tuesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at MacDowell Field.
With the win, Babson captured its 11th victory in a row to improve to 15-3 overall while Endicott has dropped two in a row since ending its 11-game winning streak and dropped to 12-4.
Seniors Isabelle Fournier (West Kingston, R.I.) and Brianne McGrath (Newmarket, Ontario) also scored for the Beavers and sophomore Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) collected two assists. Senior Kelsey Low (Longmeadow, Mass.) also picked up an assist and sophomore Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) made three saves to record the win in goal.
First-year Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) and sophomore Kathleen Reissfelder (Westwood, Mass.) scored goals for the Gulls and first-year goalie Brianna Anslow (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was impressive with 11 saves in the loss.
The Beavers came out like gangbusters with two goals in the first seven minutes and outshooting the visitors 10-0 in the first quarter. They needed less than three minutes to get on the board as Fournier buried a crossing pass from Evans for her sixth of the season. Babson made it 2-0 three minutes later following a penalty corner as Low dropped a pass from the right endline to McGrath, and she rifled home a shot into the left side of the goal for her 13th goal of the season.
Babson extended the lead to 3-0 three minutes into the second quarter when Evans stole an Endicott clearing attempt on the right side, dribbled down low and sent a crossing pass to Marguerite on the left and she finished off her first of the game and seventh of the season.
Marguerite added her second goal with a little over a minute left in the half following a penalty corner. McGrath peppered the Gulls goal with two shots before Marguerite pounded in a rebound to put the Beavers up 4-0 at the intermission.
The Beavers extended the lead to 5-0 five minutes into the third frame after Anslow made saves on McGrath and sophomore Camille Marsh (Englewood, Colo.) before Marguerite converted the third chance to finish off her hat trick and her ninth of the season.
Endicott potted its first goal with a minute to go in the third quarter. Swanson took a pass just outside the circle, dribbled to her left past the Babson defense and slid a shot under Furmanek for her ninth goal of the season.
The Gulls rounded out the scoring midway through the fourth quarter but not before Furmanek made a pair of impressive saves. Reissfelder sent Swanson in on a breakaway and she was denied by Furmanek, who also stopped the first rebound but Reissfelder backhanded the second rebound into the left corner of the goal for her third of the season.
Babson finished with a 23-8 margin in shots, including a 16-0 margin in the first half, and took 12 of the game's 16 penalty corners.
Babson wraps up the regular season Saturday at noon against Smith in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest while Endicott visits Southern Maine Thursday for a non-conference affair at 7 p.m.
