No. 4 Field Hockey Fends Off Endicott for 13th Straight Win, 2-1

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass.—Seniors Lauren Curley (Stow, Mass.) and junior Brianne McGrath (Newmarket, Ontario) both scored third-quarter goals to help No. 4 Babson College defeat Endicott College, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at North Field.

Babson, which matched a program record with its 13th straight win, improves to 17-1 overall. Endicott, which suffered its third loss in the last four matches, slips to 9-6 on the year.

Senior Quinn Greer (Providence, R.I.) recorded an assist and senior goalkeeper Cassidy Riley (Niantic, Conn.) made seven saves for the Beavers.

Senior Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) scored for the Gulls, who got nine saves from classmate Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.).

Curley broke the scoreless deadlock 8:20 into the third quarter by carrying the ball into the circle and beating Farrin with a reverse shot for her 12th goal of the season. McGrath doubled Babson's advantage just 2:27 later when Greer beat a defender and fed her at the right post for an easy tap in.

Riley kept the Beavers in front with a superb fourth-quarter performance that included four saves. She made a stick save on junior Meaghan Horan (Cheshire, Conn.) just over three minutes into the stanza and came up with a huge stop diving to her right to deny senior Abby Carter's (Richmond, Vt.) penalty stroke with 5:23 to go in the match.

Endicott finally broke through when Poulin jammed home her own rebound with 2:18 left to play, but Babson held the hosts without a shot the rest of the way to close out the win.

The Beavers finished with a 25-22 edge in shots, which included a 19-3 edge in the first and third periods. Both teams attempted 10 penalty corners in the match.

Babson closes out its regular season at Smith on Saturday at 12 p.m., while Endicott hosts Southern Maine on Thursday at 7 p.m.
