Game Preview: Men's Lacrosse vs. Rensselaer

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 0-3 all-time against Rensselaer in a series that dates back to the 2017 campaign.
• The Beavers will host the Engineers for just the second time after suffering an 8-4 loss at MacDowell Field back in 2018.
• Babson has started slowly in all three meetings against RPI, totaling just four first-half goals and a single first-quarter tally in the all-time series.

LAST MEETING
• Owen Putman scored four times and Lucas Bastarache added three goals as then-18th-ranked Rensselaer defeated Babson, 14-8, on March 9, 2019, in Troy, N.Y.
• JT Kelly and Cliff Kigar both added two goals and one assist apiece for the Engineers, who built a 10-goal lead midway through the third quarter.
• Junior Mason O'Hanlon scored twice and senior Matthew MacCune chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Beavers.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• Rensselaer (3-1) rebounded from its first loss of the year by defeating MIT, 14-6, last Saturday in Cambridge.
• Putman and Cooper Urban scored four goals apiece and Connor Glosner added two goals and three assists for the Engineers, who raced out to an 8-0 lead less than four minutes into the second quarter.
• Putman (11-4-15) and Cooper (11-4-15) have combined for 22 goals, while Glosner (6-5-11) ranks first on the team in assists.
• Garrett Volley leads the defense with eight caused turnovers and has scooped up 10 ground balls, the duo of Tyler Hancock and Nick De Oliveira has won 46.2 percent of its faceoffs, and Brian Doughty has posted an 11.99 goals against average and a .482 save percentage in four starts.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (3-1) bounced back from its first loss by rallying to defeat Endicott, 8-6, on Wednesday.
• First-year Chi Chi Price scored twice and junior Ethan Carpenter recorded a goal and four assists to match his career high with five points for the Beavers, who ripped off eight unanswered goals after falling behind 4-0 in the second quarter.
• Senior Owen Allen (9-3-12) has a goal in every game this season, MacCune (5-7-12) leads the team in assists, and the duo of Carpenter (2-5-7) and junior Lee Sipes (5-2-7) have combined for 14 points.
• Junior John Antaya leads the defense with 14 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers, while senior goalie Christopher Aranalade has posted an 8.32 goals against average and a .571 save percentage in four starts.

DUO SWEEPS CONFERENCE HONORS
• O'Hanlon finished with five goals and one assist for six points in games against Bates and Union and was selected as the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
• Sophomore Drew Thomas recorded four caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls against the Bobcats and Dutchmen on the way to earning his first conference defensive player of the week award.

NEW LOOK BEAVERS
• Nearly all of Babson's players and coaches shaved their heads on last Sunday as part of the Lacrosse for Life program. For each member of the team that shaved their head $1,000 will be donated to support patients at Boston's Children's Hospital, the number one pediatric research hospital in the world.

PLENTY IN COMMON
• The Beavers will play the second of four games against Liberty League opponents on Saturday, while Rensselaer will face its third consecutive NEWMAC opponent.
• Babson suffered a 15-7 loss to No. 11 Union, while the Engineers lost to Coast Guard, 16-14, on February 26 and won 14-6 at MIT last Saturday.

STARTING STRONG
• The Green and White, which has defeated Roger Williams, Bates and Endicott over its first four games, is off to a 3-1 start for the first time since 2013.

NUMBER TO KNOW
• The Beavers have assisted on 62.5 percent of their goals over the first four games.
