Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine—First-year Chi Chi Price (Hingham, Mass.) scored a season-high four goals but Babson College was unable to rally from an early deficit and suffered a 14-9 loss at Bowdoin College on Wednesday night.
Babson, which has dropped two straight games, slips to 3-3 overall, while Bowdoin improves to 1-2.
Junior Mason O'Hanlon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had two goals and junior Lee Sipes (Windham, N.H.), sophomore Tom Schofield (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Nick Mitchell (Sudbury, Mass.) all scored once for the Beavers. Junior Ethan Carpenter (Orlando, Fla.) dished out two assists, sophomore Drew Thomas (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) recorded two caused turnovers and senior Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made 13 saves in the loss.
Sophomore Chris Fowler (Summit, N.J.) and junior Zack Chandler (Salisbury, Conn.) both scored three times, and senior Jimmy Young (Exeter, N.H.) finished with two goals and two assists to lead the Polar Bears. First-year Ethan Barnard (Boxford, Mass.) won 20-of-26 face-offs and scooped up 13 ground balls, junior Henry Savage (Marblehead, Mass.) forced four turnovers and senior Jack O'Connor (Stamford, Conn.) made seven between the pipes.
Junior Donal Mullane (Washington, D.C.) scored twice and senior Sam Langan (Cazenovia, N.Y.) added the first of his two goals to help Bowdoin build a 5-1 lead late in the first quarter. Price scored his second goal of the game 1:39 into the second and Sipes converted a feed from sophomore Ryan Donovan (Cohasset, Mass.) to pull the Green and White within two at the 6:14 mark of the frame. Fowler and Young responded with tallies just 49 seconds apart, and junior Reed Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) scored following a turnover as the Polar Bears extended the margin back to 8-4 at the break.
The Beavers cut their deficit to two for a second time thanks to goals by Schofield and Price over the first five minutes of the third quarter, only to see Bowdoin respond with three straight markers to make it 11-6 on Fowler's second tally with 1:59 to go in the stanza. Price scored 19 seconds later though, and O'Hanlon and Mitchell followed with back-to-back goals to get Babson within 11-9 just over a minute into the fourth quarter.
The Green and White forced three straight turnovers but came up empty on its next three possessions before Young pushed Bowdoin's lead back to three with 7:59 to play. The Polar Bears won the ensuing face-off and stretched the margin to four on Fowler's man-up score with just over six minutes remaining.
The Beavers were successful on 18-of-20 clears, but were outshot 42-26. Bowdoin also won 20-of-27 face-offs and finished with a 35-22 edge in ground balls.
Babson returns to action on Monday when it hosts Clarkson at 12 p.m.
