SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 4-4 all-time against Bates in a series that dates back to 1979.
• The teams will meet for the fourth year in a row on Wednesday after not playing for over two decades between 1991-2016.
• The Beavers' last win in the series came back in 1990 when they defeated the Bobcats, 16-15.
• Three of the last four games between Babson and Bates have been decided by two goals or less.
LAST MEETING
• Senior All-American Matt Chlastawa scored 40 seconds into overtime to lift Bates over the Beavers, 10-9, on February 27, 2019, in Babson Park.
• Chlastawa and senior Brendan Mullally both had two goals and Eli Cooper won 14-of-22 face-offs for the Bobcats, who trailed 7-5 less than five minutes into the third quarter.
• Senior Owen Allen and Samuel Mishkind both scored twice and junior John Antaya finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers for Babson, which got 15 saves from senior Christopher Aranalde.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• Bates (0-1) suffered a 15-9 loss to fifth-ranked RIT in its season opener on Saturday.
• Junior Jack Scribner recorded two goals and two assists and senior Rob Strain made 19 saves for the Bobcats, who closed the game with five unanswered goals.
• Chlastawa (39-53-92), Mullally (38-13-51) and senior Curtis Knapton (24-13-37), who were the team's top three scorers a year ago, are all back for a Bates squad that finished 10-5 in 2019.
• Strain, who made eight starts and appeared in all 15 games, posted a 13.60 goals against average and a .532 save percentage last spring.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (1-0) opened the season with a 13-1 win over Roger Williams last Wednesday at MacDowell Field.
• Allen had four goals and two assists to match his career high with six points and junior John Calicchio added two goals and one assist for the Beavers, who shutout the Hawks over the final 41 minutes.
• Babson returns six of its top eight point producers from last year's 8-9 squad, highlighted by the trio of Allen (30-14-44) and juniors Ethan Carpenter (15-12-27) and Mason O'Hanlon (15-8-23).
• Junior Jack Tague led the defense with 25 caused turnovers last spring, while Aranalde, who stopped seven shots in the opener, posted a 9.66 goals against average and a .531 save percentage in 17 starts last year.
ANTAYA PICKS UP CONFERENCE HONOR
• After scooping up three ground balls and recording a team-high three of Babson's 12 caused turnovers in the win over Roger Williams, Antaya earned NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
BEAVER BITES
• Senior Kellan Page and first-year Chi Chi Price both scored the first goals of their respective careers in last Wednesday's season-opening win.
• Merrimack transfer, junior Lee Sipes, put together a terrific first game at Babson scoring two goals, winning a pair of face-offs and tying for game-high honors with five ground balls.
• Senior Kevin Klempner, who was playing his first game since the 2018 campaign, won 6-of-9 face-offs in the opener for the Beavers.
OLD FRIENDS REUNITED
• Second-year Babson head coach Rocky Batty will be reunited with fellow Brown University alum and Bates head coach Peter Lasagna on Wednesday. A former defenseman, Batty played for Lasagna, who served as an assistant for the Bears, during his time at Brown.
GETTING FAMILIAR WITH MAINE
• Wednesday's trip to Lewiston will be the first of three to the state of Maine over the next month for the Beavers.
• In addition to taking on Bates, the Green and White travels to Brunswick face Bowdoin on March 11 and will trek to Waterville to take on Colby on March 19.
NUMBER TO KNOW
• The Beavers' 43 ground balls in last Wednesday's opener are their most in a game since April 2017.
