Browne and Oliger Homer, McHale Shines in Four-Hit Day as Beavers Reach 30 Wins for First Time in Regular Season History

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Jake Oliger (Newtown, Conn.) homered and drove in five runs to help head coach Matt Noone record his 400th career win as No. 7/7 Babson College defeated visiting Suffolk University, 13-4, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.

With its fifth straight win, Babson improves to 30-5 while setting a new school record for regular season wins. Suffolk, which has dropped five of its last six games, slips to 22-16-1 overall.

Senior Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) went 4-for-5 with two RBI, junior Aidan Scott (South Glastonbury, Conn.) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and seniors Nicholas Browne (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) both finished with two hits and two RBI for the Beavers. First-year Nate Carpenter (Groveland, Mass.) earned his first career win with four shutout innings of relief striking out two and giving up just two hits.

Junior Tim Brigham (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) doubled and drove in three runs for the Rams, who were limited to just five hits on the afternoon. One of nine pitchers to see action, first-year Casey Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) fell to 0-1 on the year after giving up a run in 0.1 of an inning.

The Green and White jumped on top 2-0 on Oliger's double down the right field line in the bottom of the first. Suffolk answered back in the third scoring four times with two outs. Sophomore Will Hopkins (Old Rochester, Mass. ) drew a bases loaded walk to make it 2-1 and Brigham followed with a three-run double to the wall in right center to give the Rams a 4-2 edge.

The Beavers took advantage of an error in the bottom of the frame to pull even on Lehr's two-run double, and then went in front for good on McHale's RBI double with one out in the fourth. Browne jumpstarted a five-run rally in the sixth with a long home run into the parking lot beyond the right field fence. McHale followed with an RBI single to center and Oliger capped the frame with a three-run blast to right center to make it 10-4.

The Green and White tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly by senior Eric Jaun (Loveland, Ohio), and RBI ground out by junior Matthew Valente (Wyckoff, N.J.) and a two-out single by Browne for the final margin.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it opens NEWMAC Tournament play at WPI at 3:30 p.m., while Suffolk will host a GNAC Tournament contest on Thursday at 4 p.m.

• The Beavers are 27-18 all-time against Suffolk and have won 10 of their last 12 meetings against the Rams.
• Babson's 30 regular season wins are one more than the previous record set just last season.
