Game Preview: No. 12 Baseball at WPI

THE SERIES
• Babson and WPI will meet for the second time in eight days and 74th time overall in a series that dates back to 1983 on Tuesday.
• The Beavers are 49-24 all-time against the Engineers and are looking to complete a regular season sweep for the second year in a row.

LAST MEETING
• Sophomore Jordy Allard gave up just one run over 7.0 innings and six different players drove in at least one run as the Beavers defeated WPI, 10-2, on March 26 in Babson Park.
• Senior Connor Gill was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while classmate Brian McHale and junior Jake Oliger both singled and drove in two runs apiece for the Beavers. Senior Austin Lindner and junior Tyrone Patterson both singled twice for the Engineers.

LAST WPI WIN
• Senior Ryan Tropeano and Anthony Capuano both homered and finished with three hits apiece as the Engineers defeated the Beavers, 11-4, on April 17, 2017, in Babson Park.
• Senior Matt Howard also had a home run and Nick Comei added three hits for WPI. Mark Webber '18 hit a three-run homer for Babson.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• WPI (16-5, 2-1 NEWMAC) has won three straight games and finished off a doubleheader sweep of Emerson with a 9-4 victory on Saturday.
• Lindner, junior David Larson and sophomore Jordan DeDonato all homered and combined to drive in right runs for the Engineers, who are averaging 10.4 runs per game at home.
• Senior Steven Gallagher is batting .449 with 10 extra-base hits and 23 runs batted in, Patterson is hitting .420 with six doubles, four homer and 20 RBI, and Tropeano boasts a .417 average to go along with 10 extra-base hits, 29 runs scored and 17 runs driven in.
• Larson (3-1), who took the loss in last week's game, has a 3.24 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 25.0 innings, while closer Dominic Fusco has gone 1-0 with four saves and 15 strikeouts in 8.1 innings this spring.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 12 Babson (14-2, 5-0 NEWMAC) rallied for a 4-3 win in game one and finished off a sweep of Coast Guard with a 4-0 game-two victory to extend its winning streak to 13 on Saturday.
• Junior Michael Nocchi tossed eight shutout innings with seven strikeouts and Oliger drove in three runs for the Beavers, who have not lost since March 3.
• Oliger is batting .375 with seven doubles, two home runs and 21 runs batted in, Gill is hitting .352 with three doubles and 18 runs scored, and senior Edward Lehr checks in at .351 with six doubles and 15 RBI.
• Allard is 3-0 with a 1.26 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 14.1 innings, senior Michael Genaro (2-1) boasts a 1.80 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .179 average, and classmate Max Tannenbaum is 2-0 with three saves in eight relief appearances.

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
• Genaro became just the second player in program history to reach 20 career wins with a six-inning effort on Saturday at Coast Guard.
• His nine wins last year set a new single-season program record and he is now just one victory shy of Sam Kilpatrick's '97 school record of 21 achieved more than two decades ago.

STREAKING BEAVERS
• The Green and White's 13-game winning streak is tied for the longest in the nation and is just one shy of the program's all-time record set last spring.
• The three longest winning streaks in program history have now all come over the last three seasons.

MORE CONFERENCE HONORS FOR NOCCHI
• Nocchi was selected as the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in four weeks on Monday after limiting Coast Guard to just two hits over 8.0 innings on Saturday.
• He matched his career high with seven strikeouts and retired the first 10 and final 12 batters he faced to improve to 2-0 on the year.

HIT STREAK MARCHES ON
• Oliger doubled in game one and singled in game two to extend his hitting streak to 18 games on Saturday at Coast Guard. His streak is tied for the sixth longest in program history.
• He had at least one hit in the final three games of 2018 and has a knock in 15 of 16 games this season. Oliger walked four times in four plate appearances to keep the streak going last Monday.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• The Beavers are 15-4 over the last two seasons in games decided by one or two runs.
