Men's Lacrosse Coasts Past Mass. Maritime, 15-3

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored four goals and matched his season high with six points as Babson College eased past the visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 15-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

Babson, which snapped a three-game skid, is now 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Mass. Maritime drops to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC with its fifth straight loss.

First-year Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.) had three goals, sophomore Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) scored twice and the duo of juniors Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) and Joseph Riccardi (Ridgewood, N.J.) combined to cause eight turnovers for the Beavers. Classmate Connor Maloney (Hopkinton, Mass.) and first-year Kevin Klempner (Stuart, Fla.) both won six face-offs in the victory.

Senior Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.), classmate Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) all had a goal for the Buccaneers, who got two assists from junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.).

Mass. Maritime tried to slow the pace early, but Mishkind scored three times over the first nine minutes, and Duffy added the first of his two goals late in the frame to give the Green and White a 4-0 lead after one quarter. Allen scored twice early in the second, while sophomore Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) set up Duffy's second tally before notching his only goal of the afternoon to push the Beavers' advantage to 9-0 at the half.

Senior Connor Flaherty (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and junior Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) scored in the first 1:35 of the second half to give Babson an 11-0 advantage. McNeill got the Buccaneers on the board at the 6:51 mark, but Mishkind answered back just seven seconds later for the hosts.

First-year Matthew MacCune (Braintree, Mass.) scored his first career goal late in the third quarter and classmate Tommy Jung (Vienna, Va.) dished out a pair of assists in a second half that featured 16 penalties.

Four different goaltenders combined to make six saves for Babson, including three by first-year Jerry Baerwitz (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) made nine saves in just over 51 minutes of action for Mass. Maritime.

The Beavers, who scored three man-up goals, won 12-of-22 face-offs and held the advantage in both shots (35-25) and ground balls (46-36).

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts Wheaton, while Mass. Maritime takes on Clark in Buzzards Bay.
