BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Mikayla Toth (Skowhegan, Maine) scored in the 45th minute and classmate Anne Marie Provencal (Skowhegan, Maine) made 11 saves as visiting Husson University upset fifth-ranked Babson College, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

With the program's first NCAA Tournament win, Husson improves to 13-5 overall and advances to face Rochester in a second round match on Saturday in Middlebury, Vt. Babson, which was making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, closes the season at 17-5.

The Beavers dominated the opening 35 minutes, outshooting the Eagles 10-3 and earning four penalty corners. Provencal made two early saves on junior Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) in the first three-plus minutes, and later kicked away a shot from in front by classmate Catherine Gilman (Cohasset, Mass.) less than 10 minutes in. Senior Jackie Merrigan's (Canton, Mass.) shot from the crease deflected off the crossbar in the 18th minute, and Merrigan had another chance denied by Provencal at the 20:24 mark.

Babson appeared to take the lead just four minutes into the second half when Tango's long pass into the circle was tipped past Provencal, but the goal was waved off. Husson took advantage when Toth took a pass from first-year Karen Stemm (Gorham, Maine) and chipped the ball past a defender before ripping a low shot past Beavers' sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, Mass.) for her fifth goal of the year and a 1-0 advantage.

The Eagles defense held the Green and White to just six second-half shots, and Provencal made four saves, including a lunging stop to deny junior Lauren Drakeley's (Woodbury, Conn.) blast from the middle of the circle following a corner in the 49th minute. She also turned away backhand attempts by senior Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) and junior Brielle Schafroth-Bach (Rye, N.H.) over the final 15 minutes to preserve the lead.

Barry finished with one save for the Beavers, who ended with a 16-6 edge in shots. Husson finished with a 7-5 advantage in corners.

GAME NOTES
• Babson is now 3-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament First Round matches, and 4-1 in national tournament games at MacDowell Field.
• The Beavers are 35-2 over the last two years when allowing one goal or less. The only other loss came on Sunday in the NEWMAC final.
• The Green and White wraps up the year at 3-4 in games decided by a single-goal.
• The Beavers have been shutout in back-to-back games for the first time since October of 2015.
• Babson's senior class of Towers, Merrigan, Elena Bartholomew (Westwood, Mass.), Jessica Kelley (Lincoln, R.I.) and Julie Mortimer (Sterling, Mass.) recorded the most wins (67) by any senior class in program history.
