No. 16 Field Hockey Pulls Away From Connecticut College, 5-2

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Lauren Drakeley (Woodbury, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and senior Kelsi McDougle (Hopedale, Mass.) added a goal and two assists as 16th-ranked Babson College defeated Connecticut College, 5-2, in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night.

With the win, Babson is now 3-0 on the year, while Connecticut College drops to 0-1.

Junior Jessica Kelley (Lincoln, R.I.) finished with a goal and an assist, while classmate Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) scored once for the Beavers. Sophomore Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) also chipped in with a pair of assists in the win.

Junior Cheyanne Asplundh (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) scored twice and classmate Jacqueline Murphy (Danvers, Mass.) contributed two assists for the Camels.

Drakeley staked the Green and White to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals off of penalty corners in the opening 11:19 of the match. Asplundh cut the Connecticut College deficit in half with her first marker of the night five minutes into the second half, but Babson responded with three goals over the next eight minutes to put the game away.

Kelley notched her first marker of the season off a feed from McDougle at the 43:40 mark to push the Beavers' lead back to 3-1. McDougle followed with her first goal of the year six and a half minutes later, and Towers tacked on her fourth tally of the year in the 50th minute to make it 5-1.

Asplundh notched her second goal of the game with 10:15 remaining to cap the scoring.

First-year Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, Mass.) made four saves over the first 50 minutes, while senior Corinne Urisko (Princeton, N.J.) stopped a pair of shots over the final 20 minutes for Babson. Senior Ryley Van der Velde (Louisville, Ky.) finished with six saves for the Camels.

The Beavers outshot the hosts 10-6 in the second half and 14-10 for the game to go along with a 6-3 edge in penalty corners.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it hosts Wesleyan at 5 p.m., while Connecticut College takes on defending national champion Middlebury on Saturday at 12 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers have won two straight against Connecticut College to even the all-time series at 5-5.
•    Drakeley, Tango and Towers have combined for 10 goals and nine assists over the first three games of the season for Babson, which is averaging 6.3 goals per contest.
•    The Green and White has scored five or more goals in three consecutive matches for the first time since the first three games of the 2010 season.
•    The Beavers have now won six straight contests on the road and 14 consecutive games in the month of September.
